The University of Cincinnati men's and women's track & field programs opened up the 2015 Oliver Nikoloff Invitational on Friday in the frigid temperatures with three top-three finishes and one school record. A total of six events were scored on the opening day.
// GOOD START TO THE HEPTATHLON
Senior Kaitlyn Good had a good first day of the heptathlon as she recorded 2,964 points, which included a career best mark in the shot put of 40' 2".
100m hurdles - 15.18 (818 pts.)
High jump - 5' 4.5" (783 pts.)
Shot put - 40' 2" (677 pts.)
200m - 27.31 (686 pts.)
//RECORD SETTING RELAY
The women's 4x1,500-meter relay set a new school record with a time of 20:12.75, and they are the first foursome to compete in the relay in UC history. The foursome was comprised of Erin Kennedy, Grace O'Donnell, Alexis Anton and Hannah Christ.
//AKERSTROM, PHILLIPS GO TWO-THREE
The Bearcats finished second and third in the women's weight throw with Frida Akerstrom and Monica Phillips. Akerstrom claimed second with a toss of 170' 4", while Phillips grabbed third by throwing 167 feet.
//OLIVER NIKOLOFF - DAY TWO
Day two of the Oliver Nikoloff is slated to begin at 10 a.m. with the long jump of the heptathlon, men's javelin and women's pole vault. Running events are scheduled to begin at noon with the men's 3,000-meter steeplechase.
