CINCINNATI- The University of Cincinnati volleyball team is spending the offseason giving back to the local community. This past weekend, the team spent time with a pair of neighborhood outreach programs, the Guardian Angels Athletics School volleyball team and the Saturday Hoops/Dribblethon.
While at Guardian Angels, the Bearcats participated in the city tournament kick-off pep rally where they organized drills for the girls and shared some favorite UC cheers. They worked with volleyball players ages 3-15 and taught agility and volleyball skill while getting to spend some quality time with the youth players.
The next day, the team went downtown to the Saturday Hoops/Dribblethon program at the OTR Recreation Center. The program is dedicated to leading the inner-city kids in healthy, faith-based fun through basketball, art, food and positive role modeling. The UC team spent time with over 100 local kids, sharing with them their personal stories of overcoming obstacles, while sophomore Ciara Hill (Bolingbrook, Ill./Bolingbrook) and redshirt sophomore Alison Kimmel (Plainfield, Ill./Plainfield North) personally spoke to the group on the importance of hope and faith, the lessons of the day for the Saturday Hoops program. After speaking with the group, they broke off into groups to play games, exercise and have fun.
