Cincinnati Falls to Vanderbilt, 13-8

Final Stats

CINCINNATI -- The University of Cincinnati lacrosse team played one of its most complete games of the season, but dropped a 13-8 decision to Vanderbilt in BIG EAST action on Wednesday afternoon at the Sheakley Athletics Center.

The Bearcats won several statistical categories, including ground balls, draw controls and saves, but couldn't overcome 20 turnovers as they fell to the Commodores in the first BIG EAST meeting between the two schools.

21:46 1st - Ashley Helmrath (UC)
After the Commodores jumped out to a 2-0 lead, Ashley Helmrath (Ellicott City, Md./Maryvale Prep) scored the second of two Cincinnati goals to tie the game. Curtis scored first, followed by Helmrath, with both coming off the free position.

8:34 1st - MacKenzie Lange (Vandy)
Lange scored an unassisted goal to cap a four-goal Vanderbilt run which put the visitors up, 6-2. Four different scorers (Lockwood, Caroline Peters and Meggie Ramzy before Lange) found the back of the net during the run.

3:42 1st - Dani Tunnell (UC)
Tunnel scored her second of the game with 3:42 left in the half to provide the halftime margin of 7-4. The sophomore would end up with a hat trick.

9:18 2nd - Alexa Kunowsky (Vandy)
Kunowsky connected for her only goal of the game to cap another four-goal run by the Commodores. It spotted Vanderbilt to a 12-5 lead and the visitors never looked back.

3:50 - Courtney Curtis (UC)
Curtis netted her second score of the game with just under four minutes to play to cut the deficit to 12-8. Unfortunately, it would be the last score for the Bearcats and Vandy would add an insurance goal with 24 seconds remaining to provide the final margin of 13-8.

The Bearcats return to the road when they visit Washington, D.C., to take on Georgetown in BIG EAST action. The game is set for Noon ET on Saturday, April 11.
