University of Cincinnati senior John Michael O'Toole (Pinson, Ala./Pinson Valley High School/Central Alabama CC) ranks tied for first with three other players after carding a 4-under par 70-68=138 Saturday at the Hoosier Invitational at the IU Golf Course (par 71; 6,813 yards) in Bloomington, Indiana.

O'Toole was tied for fourth after the morning's opening round thanks to four birdies. He vaulted into a tied for first after posting his best round of the spring season in the afternoon, registering a 3-under 68 with four birdies and only one bogey.

"John Michael has been playing very well lately," UC head coach Doug Martin said. "He avoided the double bogeys today and managed himself around the golf course very well. If he goes out there Sunday and has a solid round he could win the tournament."

O'Toole is tied atop the leaderboard with Xavier's Jose Montano (71-67=138), Toledo's Chris Selfridge (72-66=138) and Wisconsin's Jack Watson (68-70=138).

As a team the Bearcats recorded their best two rounds of the spring season on Saturday, earning a combined 7-over 287-288=575 to rank fifth in the 17-team event. Wisconsin leads the field at 3-under286-279=565.

"Four or five holes cost us from playing a solid 36 today and be in position to win the tournament," Martin said. "We are still in position, but we'll need to have a special final round."

UC sophomore Jared O'Kelley (Canton, Ga./Creekview High School) is tied for 20th after two rounds at 2-over 72-72=144. Senior Jared Howard (Dublin, Ohio/Jerome High School) ranks tied for 28th at 4-over 72-74=146. Senior Baxter Reeves (Montgomery, Ala./Brewbaker Tech/Central Alabama CC) and sophomore Brennen Walsh (Cincinnati, Ohio/Elder High School) are both tied for 39th place at 6-over 148. Reeves carded a 74-74=148 while Walsh earned a 73-75=148.

"I have felt over the last few weeks that we were starting to come together," Martin said. "Our spring schedule has been tougher than in years past. We're still at the point where if we can eliminate the unforced errors we can have a good finish to the regular season."

Final-round action begins Sunday at 9 a.m. ET. Live scoring is available at GolfStat.com.
