Eight University of Cincinnati student-athletes have been named Arthur Ashe Jr. Sports Scholars in their respective sports, led by men's track and field athlete Brian Barney who has been named a finalist for the Male Arthur Ashe Jr. Sports Scholar of the Year.
Diverse Issues in Higher Education established the award to honor student-athletes of color who show excellence in both the classroom and in their athletic endeavors. The Arthur Ashe Jr. Sports Scholar award was inspired by the tennis legend's commitment to education and sport excellence.
