University of Cincinnati sophomore Jared O'Kelley (Canton, Ga./Creekview High School) stands in fifth place at 71-70=141 through two rounds at the American Championship at the Black Diamond Ranch in Lecanto, Florida.

O'Kelley carded a 1-under par 71 in Sunday morning's opening round. He registered birdies on three of his first five holes and, after going 4-over the next 12 holes, served up an eagle on his final hole. He scaled the leaderboard in the afternoon's second round after matching his top single-round score of the year at 2-under 70. He was 1-over through 11 holes before tallying three birdies and notching four par scores to finish at 2-under for the round.

O'Kelley is seven strokes behind tournament leader Ryan Fricker of USF, who carded a 10-under 67-67-134. UCF's Linus Vaisanen is second at 6-under 70-68=138. SMU's Andrew Buchanan (4-under 69-71=140) and USF's Rigel Fernandes (4-under 70-70=140) are tied for third.

"Jared O'Kelley had a great day," UC head coach Doug Martin said. "He has been playing well for several weeks but hasn't had a lot to show for it. Today, his execution was very good. He was able to battle some difficult conditions and get up and down when he needed."

The Bearcats find themselves in sixth place at 11-over 291-296=587 entering Monday's final round. USF, ranked 18th by GolfStat, leads the 10-team event at 19-under 282-275=557.

UC junior Emerson Newsome (Dacula, Ga./Mill Creek High School) stands tied for 19th place after two rounds at 2-over 71-75=146. He turned in his best round of the year to start the day, carding a 1-under par 71 in the first round. He registered an eagle on his third hole of the day and earned par or better scores on 13 other holes. He ran into some trouble in the afternoon with a double bogey and five bogeys that resulted in a 3-over 75.

Bearcat seniors Jared Howard (Dublin, Ohio/Jerome High School) and John Michael O'Toole (Pinson, Ala./Pinson Valley High School/Central Alabama CC) are tied with two other players for 29th place at 6-over 150. Howard recorded a 75-75=150 while O'Toole finished at 74-76=150. Fellow senior Baxter Reeves (Montgomery, Ala./Brewbaker Tech/Central Alabama CC) is tied for 40th place at 9-over 77-76=153.

Final round action on the par-72, 7,025-yard Quarry Course begins Monday at 8 a.m. ET.
