CINCINNATI -- The University of Cincinnati baseball team could not get its offense going on Tuesday night, dropping a 5-1 decision to crosstown rival Xavier at Marge Schott Stadium. The Bearcats held the Musketeers to only five hits on the night but were unable to capitalize, managing just three hits of their own.

- With the loss, Cincinnati drops to 15-36 on the year and Xavier improves to 14-36.
- The Bearcats concluded the three-game series against the Musketeers with two victories, including a 4-0 win on April 14 during the Joe Nuxhall Classic and an 8-5 thriller on April 22 at Xavier.
- Cincinnati starting pitcher Nick Voss (Loveland, Ohio/Moeller) (0-2) took the loss while Xavier starting pitch Greg Jacknewitz (4-5) picked up the win.
- Junior Ian Happ (Pittsburgh, Pa./Mt. Lebanon) registered his 55th-career stolen base. The junior needs six more to tie Troy Muckerheide (1992-95) for fourth in the UC record book.
- Head coach Ty Neal penciled six freshmen into the starting lineup and has started at least four youngsters in each game this season. Freshman Ryan Noda (Volo, Ill./Grant) has started every game for UC.
- Freshman Nick Voss recorded career highs in both innings pitched (2.2) and strikeouts (two).
- Freshman David Orndorff (Pasadena, Calif./Pasadena Polytechnic) set a career high in strikeouts with four.

Top of the Second
After a fielding error, a hit by pitch and a wild pitch put two runners in scoring position for Xavier, the Musketeers scored two runs on back-to-back sacrifice flies by Patrick Jones and Joe Gellenbeck for an early 2-0 lead.
Bottom of the Fourth
Kyle Mottice led off the inning with a triple to right field on a 1-1 count and freshman Treg Haberkorn's (Leo, Ind./Leo) groundout brought him home to cut the Musketeers lead to 2-1.
Top of the Sixth
Jones extended Xavier's lead to 4-1 after he sent a line-drive 2-run homerun over the left field wall.

The Bearcats will wrap up the regular season with a three-game series against East Carolina May 14, 15 and 16. UC will honor Ryan Atkinson (Cincinnati, Ohio/Colerain), the team's lone senior, in a pregame ceremony on Friday and will retire the number of former UC baseball great Kevin Youkilis prior to the game on Saturday.
