University of Cincinnati junior Kenya Woodall qualified for the 400-meter dash finals on the opening day of the NCAA East Preliminary in Jacksonville, Florida.
// WOODALL QUALIFIES FOR THE 400 FINALS
Woodall opened her busy NCAA East Preliminary by qualifying for the finals of the 400-meter dash as she finished third in her heat to earn an automatic bid to the finals. The Coatesville, Pennsylvania native coasted to a 53.05 in the race, which is the 16th fastest time in the competition. The 400m final is slated for tomorrow at 6 p.m. Woodall is also running the prelims of the 200-meter dash tomorrow at 8 p.m.
// AKERSTROM NARROWLY MISSES NCAA CHAMPIONSHIPS
Senior thrower Frida Akerstrom narrowly missed qualifying for the NCAA Outdoor Championships in the shot put as she finished 15th overall with a throw of 51' 2.75". The Swede was less than nine inches from earning a spot at the national meet. Akerstrom has one final attempt at getting to Eugene, Oregon as she competes in the discus tomorrow at noon.
