Hurd, Abrahamsson Qualify for NCAA Championships

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- The University of Cincinnati track and field program had two more student-athletes qualify for the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships during the final day of action at the NCAA East Preliminary Round on Saturday in North Florida.

Rebecka Abrahamsson (Karlshamn, Sweden/Karlshamn) and Erika Hurd (Manchester, Md./Manchester Valley) joined the previously qualified Adrian Valles (Pamplona, Spain/Spanish National Team) and Kenya Woodall (Coatesville, Pa/Coatesville) to match the most national qualifiers in school history. Cincinnati previously sent four competitors to the NCAA Championships in both 2012 and '05.

Abrahamsson became the first UC female to reach the NCAA Championships in the triple jump, using a top mark of 42' 4.75" to place sixth overall. The freshman's mark also bested her own school record, previously a distance of 41' 10".

// HURD JUMPING TO EUGENE

Hurd will join the Bearcats headed to Oregon after placing ninth in the high jump with a final mark of 5' 10.5". Hurd becomes just the second female from UC to qualify in the high jump, joining Renee Hein who qualified three times from 2005-07. It caps a year in which Hurd also qualified for the NCAA Indoor Championships, where she tied for 15th overall.
