Baseball America Release
CINCINNATI-- University of Cincinnati baseball player Ian Happ (Pittsburgh, Pa./Mt. Lebanon) picked up his fourth and fifth All-America honors on Thursday, being named First Team All-America by D1Baseball.com and Second Team All-America by Baseball America.
The awards come three days after Happ was selected as the ninth overall pick in the Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft by the Chicago Cubs, making him the highest overall pick in program history.
The first team selection by D1Baseball.com makes him just the third UC player to earn the highest All-America honor and the first since Billy Wolf did so in 1965. Overall, he is the ninth player in program history to be named an All-American.
In addition to today's awards, Happ also was named to the All-America second teams by NCBWA, Louisville Slugger Collegiate Baseball and College Sports Madness. He was named a First Team Capital One Academic All-American by CoSIDA.
The junior was named the 2015 American Athletic Conference Player of the Year and finished the season as the league leader in batting average (.369), slugging percentage (.672), on-base percentage (.492), total bases (133) and walks (46).
