Valles Finishes Fifth, Garners All-America Honors

University of Cincinnati freshman Adrian Valles garnered his second First Team All-America accolade in the pole vault Wednesday afternoon at the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships in Eugene, Oregon.

// VALLES FINISHES FIFTH IN POLE VAULT
Valles, who finished sixth at the NCAA Indoor Championships, cleared 18' 0.5" to grab fifth place in the vault competition. It was the third time this season the Spaniard vaulted over 18 feet. He is now the first UC male track & field athlete to earn All-America honors both indoors and outdoors since 1973 when Al Lanier (Indoors: long jump; Outdoors: long jump and triple jump).

The freshman caps off his first year at UC as a two-time All-American and conference champion, UC's school record holder in both indoors and outdoors, and also qualified for the IAAF World Championships in Beijing, China.

Junior Kenya Woodall is next up for the Bearcats as she competes in the 400-meter dash prelims at 8:30 p.m. ET. The Coatesville, Pennsylvania native must finish top two in her heat or have one of the two next best times among all heats to qualify for Saturday's final.
