CINCINNATI
-- The American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) released its 2015 All-America teams on Saturday, naming University of Cincinnati baseball player Ian Happ (Pittsburgh, Pa./Mt. Lebanon) to its first team. It is the sixth All-America honor of the season for Happ and the second First Team selection.

The junior was previously named First Team All-America by D1Baseball.com and was added to the second teams by Baseball America, the NCBWA, Louisville Slugger Collegiate Baseball and College Sports Madness. He also was named a First Team Capital One Academic All-American by CoSIDA.

The award comes five days after Happ was selected as the ninth overall pick in the Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft by the Chicago Cubs, making him the highest overall pick in program history.

The first team selection makes him just the third UC player to earn the highest All-America honor and the first since Billy Wolf did so in 1965. Overall, he is the ninth player in program history to be named an All-American.

The junior was named the 2015 American Athletic Conference Player of the Year and finished the season as the league leader in batting average (.369), slugging percentage (.672), on-base percentage (.492), total bases (133) and walks (46).
