CINCINNATI – Former University of Cincinnati men’s golf player John Michael O’Toole has been named a Cleveland Golf/Srixon All-American Scholar by the Golf Coaches Association of America.
O’Toole is one of 206 NCAA Division I golf players to earn the distinction given to juniors or seniors who participate in 50 percent of the team’s competitive rounds, own a stroke average under 76.0 and maintain a minimum cumulative grade-point average of 3.2. Recipients also must be of high moral character and be in good standing with his university.
As a senior, O’Toole led the Bearcats during the 2014-15 campaign with a 73.63 stroke average, recording eight top-30 finishes. He tied for second at the Hoosier Invitational with a season-low 3-under par 210. O’Toole recorded a 74.20 stroke average in 35 rounds as a junior. He registered seven top-30 finishes and ranked first or second on the team in five of seven spring tournaments. He posted a season-best 2-under 218 to tie for seventh place at the 2014 Old Waverly Collegiate Championship.
O’Toole earned Dean’s List and Bearcats Academic Honor Roll accolades throughout his junior and senior seasons with the Bearcats.

O’Toole qualified for the U.S. Amateur Championship by carding a 7-under par 65-70=135 at Burningtree Country Club in Decatur, Georgia on July 13. He finished second at the qualifying event one stroke behind Auburn player Michael Johnson, who posted an 8-under 63-71=134.
The U.S. Amateur Championship takes place at Olympia Fields Country Club in Chicago, Aug. 17-23.
