CINCINNATI - For the second straight season, the University of Cincinnati baseball team has won the American Athletic Conference Academic Excellence Award, recording the highest GPA among all league baseball teams for the 2014-15 school year. Additionally, former Bearcats player Ian Happ was named the baseball Scholar-Athlete Sport Excellence Award winner.

"I am really proud of our guys" said head coach Ty Neal. "The team has worked hard not only on the field but also in the classroom and they are very deserving of this recognition. Academics will always be a priority for our team and I am happy to see them succeeding."

The team was honored with the award after posting a GPA of 3.240 during the academic year. A total of 21 baseball student-athletes recorded a 3.0 or higher GPA while redshirt senior Bryan Chenoweth (Lafayette, Ind./McCutcheon), senior Mitch Patishall (Pendleton, Ind./Pendleton Heights) and redshirt sophomore Connor McVey (Mason, Ohio/Mason) all earned a 4.0 mark in the spring semester.
