CINCINNATI - The University of Cincinnati men's basketball team will play host to highly ranked Iowa State on Dec. 22 at 7 p.m. ET inside Fifth Third Arena. The game will be broadcast on ESPN2.
Iowa State returns four starters from the 2014-15 squad that posted a 25-9 overall mark and won the Big 12 Conference for the second consecutive year. The Cyclones will be led by senior forward Georges Niang, who garnered third team All-America honors. Junior point guard Monte Morris led the NCAA with a 4.6-to-1 assist-to-turnover ratio.
Iowa State finished last season ranked ninth in the final Associated Press poll and was listed seventh in ESPN's "No-Longer-Way-Too-Early" Top 25 story on the upcoming 2015-16 campaign released Aug. 5.
Cincinnati brings back all five starters from last year's 23-11 unit that advanced to the Round of 32 in the 2015 NCAA Tournament. Senior forward Octavius Ellis (Memphis, Tenn./Trinity Valley College [Texas]) earned second team all-league honors in the American Athletic Conference, averaging a team-best 9.9 points to go with 7.2 rebounds and 2.0 blocks. Sophomore forward Gary Clark (Clayton, N.C./Clayton High School) gathered All-Rookie team honors, ranking second among conference freshmen with 7.2 rebounds.
Cincinnati leads the series with Iowa State 3-1, having won each of the last three meetings. The Bearcats defeated the Cyclones, 78-70, on Nov. 23, 2012, in the semifinals of the Global Sports Classic in Las Vegas.
