CINCINNATI -- The University of Cincinnati men's soccer team received goals from Emmanuel Appiah and Alejandro Garcia on Monday night to secure a 2-1 decision over IUPUI.
Appiah (Westerville, Ohio/ Westerville Central) converted a penalty kick in the 43rd minute before Garcia (Coral Springs, Fla./Darton State) added a key insurance goal in the 61st. IUPUI cut the deficit to 2-1 in the 67th minute before the Bearcats held on for the victory.

Appiah converted a penalty kick following a Jaguar foul in the box. Jack Clark was taken down in the box, leading to the PK, which was Appiah's second conversion of a penalty kick for a goal this season.
61' - CIN Alejandro Garcia (Adam Wilson & Jonny Williams)
Garcia scored his fourth goal of the season when Williams (Loveland, Ohio/Loveland/IUPUI) played it along the far sideline and sent it into the box. Wilson (Auchterarder, Scotland/Dollar Academy) one-touched it to Garcia converted with a touch of the left foot for a vital insurance goal.
66' - IUPUI Ben Thornton (Cristian Soto)
Thornton headed home a free kick from Soto just inside the six to cut the deficit in half.

- UC now leads the IUPUI series 5-2, including a 4-1 lead at Gettler Stadium.
- Williams recorded a point against his former team, assisting on Garcia's game-winner. The Loveland, Ohio, native appeared in 26 matches for the Jaguars over two years, scoring three goals.
- The last three matches in the series have all been decided by one goal.
- Cincinnati played the final 9:34 with 10 men following a red card on Terence Carter.
