Thompson's Career High Propels Bearcats to Sweep over SIUE

CINCINNATI
- Freshman Jordan Thompson had a career night with 24 kills and a .444 hitting percentage to lead the University of Cincinnati volleyball team to a 3-0 (25-12, 25-19, 25-18) sweep over SIU-Edwardsville on Saturday afternoon in Fifth Third Arena. The 24 kills were a career high for the Edina, Minnesota, native and a season high for any UC player.

// NOTABLES
- With the victory, Cincinnati improves to 8-3 while SIUE falls to 2-8 on the season.
- Thompson set a career high with 24 kills and tied a career high with three blocks. Her 24 kills and 45 attempts were the most for any UC player this season.
- Sophomore Parker Shepherd (McKinney, Texas/McKinney Boyd) tallied her third double-double of the season with 19 assists and 10 digs.
- Freshman Carly Nolan (Crystal Lake, Ill./Crystal Lake South) chipped in 17 digs with eight kills and no errors for the Bearcats.
- Freshman Jade Tingelhoff (Lakeville, Minn./Lakeville South) also dished out 19 assists for Cincinnati.
- The Bearcats held the Cougars to only 27 kills in the match, three less than Thompson be herself.
- UC topped SIUE in all statistical categories, including kills (49-27), hitting percentage (.347-.127), assists (44-24), digs (65-50), blocks (5.5-4.0) and service aces (5-2).
- The Bearcats closed out non-conference play with an 8-2 record. It is the best mark heading into conference action for the Bearcats since going 11-2 to open the season in 2010.

// SET BREAKDOWN
Set 1: UC 25, SIUE 12

- The Bearcats took a 12-8 lead off three straight points, including a service ace by Nolan and a kill by Thompson, to force a SIUE timeout. Out of the timeout, Nolan recorded another ace and Thompson recorded another kill for a 14-8 UC lead.
- A six-point Bearcats scoring run, including four more Thompson kills, gave the Bearcats a 22-10 lead in the first game.
- Junior Lindsey Dinkelacker (Cincinnati, Ohio/St. Louis) served in an ace on the Bearcats' first set-point opportunity to give UC the 25-12 win.
- Thompson finished the game with 11 kills and a .846 hitting percentage.
Set 2: UC 25, SIUE 19
- The Cougars tied the score at 9-9 following a UC service error and a SIUE service ace. Head coach Molly Alvey called a timeout and a SIUE kill out of the break gave the visitors a 10-9 advantage.
- Cincinnati was down 13-11 before scoring eight of the next nine points to surge ahead 19-14. Cincinnati registered three blocks during the scoring run with sophomore Maya Muldrow (Raleigh, N.C./Wakefield) having a hand in all of them.
- Another three-point UC run with a kill by senior Amelia Wegman (Aurora, Ill./Rosary) and an ace from Shepherd gave the Bearcats set point at 24-18 and an attack error by SIUE gave the Bearcats a 25-19 win two points later.
Set 3: UC 25, SIUE 18
- The Bearcats broke a 7-7 tie with a three-point scoring run that included kills by Wegman and Nolan.
- A kill by Wegman made it 15-10 and the Bearcats kept the five-point advantage when a kill by Nolan made it 20-15.
- Three consecutive kills by Thompson pushed Cincinnati to a 23-16 lead and Wegman's ninth kill of the match was good for the 25-18 win.

// UP NEXT
The Bearcats open play in the American Athletic Conference next week when they host Memphis and East Carolina at Fifth Third Arena. UC will face off against the Tigers at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 23, and meet the Pirates at 7 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 25.
