University of Cincinnati junior Jared O'Kelley (Canton, Ga./Creekview High School) is tied with 10 other players for 15th place at 3-over par 75 after the first round of the Jackrabbit Invitational at the Dunes Course at Prairie Club (par 72; 7,785 yards) in Valentine, Nebraska.

Michigan State's Gareth Lappin leads the 73-player field at 3-under 69.

The Bearcats are 12th in the team standings at 24-over 312. Michigan State leads the 14-team field after an opening round 2-over 290.

"With winds sustained at 20 miles per hour and gusts up to 35, the conditions today were as difficult as I've seen since I've been coaching," said 10th year UC head coach Doug Martin. "We got off to a good start and played well for the first nine holes. The golf course definitely won today though. We came here to play in difficult conditions. We just need to toughen up mentally."

Second-round play begins Sunday at 10 a.m. ET. Final-round action is set for Monday.
