DAYTON, Ohio -- The University of Cincinnati men's soccer team (2-2) suffered a 3-0 setback on Monday evening at Wright State. The teams played the first 45 minutes scoreless before the Raiders scored three times in the second half to win the match.
The teams played a slower-paced first half, combining for eight shots in the opening 45, before both teams turned up the pressure in the second half. Shots were even at 10 in the second period, with Wright State holding a 5-3 edge in shots on goal during the second half.
Dietrich Jackson got the Raiders on the scoreboard first in the 50th minute, scoring on an assist from Sam DeRoy. Peguy Ngatcha then sealed the game for the hosts, adding insurance goals in the 53rd and 81st minutes.
Alex Gill (Beavercreek, Ohio/Beavercreek) made three saves at keeper in the effort for UC, while Pedro Diaz (Mason, Ohio/Mason) played the final 10 minutes at keeper in his first collegiate action.
Wright State's Tyler Blackmer made five saves while recording the clean sheet.
Offensively, Alejandro Garcia (Coral Springs, Fla./Darton State) registered a pair of shots on the keeper for UC. Adam Wilson (Auchterarder, Scotland/Dollar Academy), Stefan Bangsund (Kent, Wash./Highline College) and Terence Carter (London, England/Northeastern) each added a shot on goal.
The Bearcats will look to rebound on Friday, Sept. 11, when they host crosstown rival Xavier. The match is set for 7 p.m. at Gettler Stadium. Fans are invited to experience UC men's soccer all season along with complimentary admission.
