BLOOMINGTON, Ind. --
The University of Cincinnati swimming and diving team had a strong opening meet at Big Ten opponent Indiana on Thursday afternoon. The Bearcats won seven individual events in Bloomington, with the men falling by a narrow, 157-135 margin and the women dropping the meet by a 186-105 score.

"It was a really impressive showing to start off our season," said head coach Mandy Commons-DiSalle. "The team raced incredibly well and held their own against one of the nation's premier programs. I think we've raised our level of competitiveness already and I'm excited for what this season will bring."

// MEN DOMINATE BUTTERFLY

The Bearcats won both the 100 and 200 butterfly, with Eitan Holder (Caracas, Venezuela/Aviv (Israel)) taking the 100 and Ryan Depietro (Lancaster, Ohio/Lancaster) winning the 200. Holder completed his 100 fly in 50.58 to edge IU's Oliver Patrouch by one-tenth of a second. Depietro clocked in at 1:52.37 in the 200.

Depietro later added a second individual victory in the 400 IM, touching the wall in 4:01.73, just .27 seconds ahead of IU's Grayson Smith.

// BREADY STRONG IN FREESTYLE

Chris Bready (Missouri City, Texas/Lawrence E. Elkins) opened his sophomore campaign with victories in the 500 and 1,000 freestyles. Bready finished the 500 in 4:33.55, while completing the 1,000 in 9:17.16. His 1,000 time won the event by nearly 10 seconds over Indiana's Adam Destrampe.

// ROEHR WINS 200 BREASTSTROKE

Tyler Roehr (Cottage Grove, Wis./Monona Grove) secured his first victory of the year in the 200 breaststroke. He used a time of 2:06.14 to beat teammate Zach Hostoffer (Highland Heights, Ohio/Gilmour Academy) by over three seconds.

// KEIRE WINS ON WOMEN'S SIDE

Junior Jacqueline Keire (Burlington, Ontario/Nelson) had the lone individual win on the women's side, winning the 50 freestyle with a time of 23.58. Keire also had runner-up finishes in the 200 freestyle (1:49.06) and the 500 freestyle (5:03.10).

The Bearcats open the Keating Aquatics Center for the year on Friday, Oct. 16, when Xavier and Cleveland State visit for a 5 p.m. meet.
