CINCINNATI -- The University of Cincinnati women's soccer team earned its 10th victory of the season on Sunday afternoon at Gettler Stadium, taking down Evansville, 4-0. The win moves the Bearcats to 10-4-4 on the season with two regular season matches to play.
UC received goals from Julie Gavorski (Madison, Ohio/Madison), Danielle Rotheram (Toronto, Ontario/Holy Trinity Catholic/Central Michigan), Vanessa Gilles (Ottawa, Canada/Louis Riel) and Cassie Wheldon (Waterloo, Canada/Bluevale), while Sam Pavlika (Temperance, Mich./Novi/IPFW) and Kaleigh Piscioneri (Avon, Ohio/Magnificat) combined to make four saves for the clean sheet.
// GOAL SCORING SUMMARY
33' - CIN Julie Gavorski (Danielle Rotheram)
Rotheram and Gavorski hooked up for a give-and-go for the only score of the first half. Gavorski dribbled into the box, then sent it wide to Rotheram. Rotheram then settled and found Gavorski as she continued towards the goal. Gavorski took the pass and sent it home for her third goal of the year.
56' - CIN Danielle Rotheram (Jordan Cotleur)
Cotleur won the ball in the midfield and sent it up to Rotheram, who was streaking past the Evansville back line. UE keeper Simone Busby came off her line and Rotheram sent it past her from about 15 yards out.
60' - CIN Vanessa Gilles (Tiffany Huber)
Huber took a corner from the far side and played it high in front. Gilles was there to head it back just inside the far post for a 3-0 UC lead.
67' - CIN Cassie Wheldon
Wheldon's goal to cap the scoring was perhaps the simplest of the afternoon. She settled from about 25 yards out, then simply turned and fired. She sent it past UE's Whitney Biggs, who was in on relief after Busby was injured.
// SENIOR DAY
The program honored the contributions of four seniors prior to Sunday's match against Evansville. Senior Day ceremonies recognized defender Kelly Latimer (Lake Forest, Calif./El Toro), Pavlika, forward Laura Rose (Cincinnati, Ohio/Walnut Hills) and Rotheram.
