STORRS, Conn. -- The University of Cincinnati volleyball team played a competitive match but fell in five sets (21-25, 25-22, 25-13, 18-25, 12-15) to UConn on Friday night in Storrs, Connecticut. A double-double by freshman Carly Nolan (Crystal Lake, Ill./Crystal Lake South) paced the Bearcats while freshman Jordan Thompson (Edina, Minn./Edina) once again led UC with 16 kills.

- With the loss, Cincinnati falls to 9-5 on the year and 1-2 in the American Athletic Conference while UConn improves to 7-7 and 1-2.
- The Bearcats played in their second five-set match in a week after not seeing a match go the distance through the entirety of non-conference play.
- Nolan notched her fourth double-double of the season with 14 digs and 12 kills. She also added a pair of service aces for the Bearcats.
- Thompson finished with a match-high 16 kills and has recorded double-digit kills in eight straight matches. She hit only two errors on the night for a .393 hitting percentage.
- Sophomore Maya Muldrow (Raleigh, N.C./Wakefield) had a career-high nine kills and hit at a .438 clip.
- Senior Emma Roberson (Brooks, Ky./Evansville) had 15 kills and two assists for Cincinnati.
- Freshman Abby Williams (Loveland, Ohio/Ursuline Academy) had 14 digs for UC and has recorded double-digit digs in all but one match this season.
- Sophomore Cortnee Bowser (Kent, Ohio/Theodore Roosevelt) led Cincinnati with five blocks, including two solo blocks.

"It was a very hard fought match tonight" said head coach Molly Alvey. "The team really battled. It truly came down to a couple of points at the end and we were just a couple points shy. We will get better from the experience that we got in this match."
// SET BREAKDOWN
Set 1: UConn 25, UC 22
- The Huskies scored three straight points on two kills and a UC attacking error to take their first lead at 10-9.
- UConn scored a run of five-of-six points to go ahead 17-14.
- A kill by Roberson got the Bearcats within a point at 18-17 but visitors would get no closer as the Huskies closed out the set with a kill by Danielle Cabel for a 25-21 victory in the opening game.
Set 2: UC 25, UConn 22
- Cincinnati fell behind early following three straight UConn kills for a 3-1 lead.
- Back-to-back kills by Muldrow and a UConn error tied the score at 9-9.
- The teams traded points until a block by Bowser and a kill by Thompson pushed the Bearcats ahead 21-19 and forced a UConn timeout.
- A kill by Nolan gave the Bearcats the game and sent the teams into the locker room with a 1-1 match.
Set 3: UC 25, ECU 13
- Cincinnati dominated the third set from the get-go and capitalized on crucial UConn errors, including a run of three in a row that put UC ahead 7-3.
- A strong service game from Nolan anchored a five-point UC run that included two aces and a block from Muldrow and junior Ciara Hill (Bolingbrook, Ill./Bolingbrook) for a 19-9 lead.
- Two more Husky errors and an ace from junior Lindsey Dinkelacker (Cincinnati, Ohio/St. Louis) put the Bearcats in the lead 24-12 and a ball handling error gave Cincinnati the win two points later.
Set 4: UConn 25, UC 18
- UC couldn't stop the UConn momentum in the fourth game, giving up scoring runs of at least three points on three separate occasions while never scoring more than two points at a time itself.
- A five-point UConn scoring run that included a block and two kills put the home team ahead 12-7.
- The Bearcats couldn't get any closer than five points the rest of the way, falling 25-18.
Set 5: UConn 15, UC 12
- A kill by Thompson broke a 7-7 tie and gave UC a slight lead at the court change.
- The teams were tied at 9-9 before a three-point scoring run for UConn proved to be the dagger for the Bearcats. The Bearcats fell behind on an attacking error and back-to-back kills by the Huskies put UConn ahead 12-9.
- Kills by Roberson, Nolan and Thompson tried to keep Cincinnati alive, but UConn ended the match with a kill by Jade Strawberry.
