CINCINNATI - The University of Cincinnati volleyball team beat second-place Temple 3-1 (25-21, 23-25, 25-23, 25-15) on Friday night at Fifth Third Arena to move into second place with a 7-4 record in American Athletic Conference action. Freshmen Jordan Thompson (Edina, Minn./Edina) and Carly Nolan (Crystal Lake, Ill./Crystal Lake South) led the Bearcats with 21 and 20 kills, respectively.
The teams began the second half of league play on Friday and Cincinnati avenged a 3-1 loss suffered against Temple on Oct. 4 in Philadelphia.

- With the victory, Cincinnati improves to 15-7 on the year and 7-4 in The American while Temple falls to 16-7 and 7-4.
- Thompson finished with 21 kills and has recorded double-digit kill totals in 16 consecutive matches.
- Nolan recorded a career-high 20 kills en route to her seventh-career double-double to go along with 14 digs.
- Freshman Abby Williams (Loveland, Ohio/Ursuline Academy) notched 15 digs has recorded double-digit digs in all but one match this season.
- Freshman Jade Tingelhoff (Lakeville, Minn./Lakeville South) dished out a match-high 49 assists and added 12 digs for her 10th-career double-double.
- Junior Lindsey Dinkelacker (Cincinnati, Ohio/St. Louis) tied a career-high with 14 digs.
- Five UC players recorded double-digit digs in the match, including Williams (15), Nolan (14), Dinkelacker (14), Tingelhoff (12) and senior Amelia Wegman (Aurora, Ill./Rosary). It is just the second time this season that five players have accomplished the feat (vs. Butler on Sept. 12).
- Wegman added a career-high four service aces to lead the UC service game that recorded seven aces in total.
- Sophomore Maya Muldrow (Raleigh, N.C./Wakefield) recorded a match-high six blocks while junior Lise Alaiwan (Villeneuve Loubet, France/Kedge Business School) added five. The Bearcats finished with 13.0 blocks in the match, half a block off their season high. UC has stuffed double-digit blocks on eight occasions this season.
// SET BREAKDOWN
Set 1: UC 25, TU 21
- Wegman served in back-to-back aces to give the Bearcats a 5-2 advantage.
- A three-point UC scoring run, including two Temple errors and capped by a Thompson kill, increased the Bearcats lead to 9-4 and forced an Owl timeout.
- The lead increased to 17-6 after two additional Temple errors, but the Owls climbed back to within 17-11 with five straight points, forcing a timeout by head coach Molly Alvey.
- Temple continued its momentum swing, getting to within three points at 19-16 before Thompson took control with back-to-back kills for a 21-16 lead and a TU timeout.
- Cincinnati finished out the set with two straight points on a kill by Alaiwan and a block by Alaiwan and Tingelhoff to win 25-21.
Set 2: TU 25, UC 23
- The teams played a tight game but a three-point UC rally, with two Thompson kills, gave the Bearcats a 19-17 lead and brought a TU timeout.
- Temple fought to take a 20-19 lead but a Dinkelacker service ace put the Bearcats back ahead at 21-20.
- The Owls wouldn't go away, scoring the next three for a 23-21 advantage and winning 25-23 to tie the match at 1-1.
Set 3: UC 25, TU 23
- The Owls opened a 10-7 lead after back-to-back kills, forcing Cincinnati into a timeout. Temple continued to score out of the timeout, finishing with five straight points for a 15-9 lead.
- Facing a seven-point deficit, the Bearcats mounted a furious comeback, getting to within 17-15 after four straight points and a pair of blocks by Muldrow.
- With the Bearcats trailing 22-20, redshirt junior Alison Kimmel (Plainfield, Ill./Plainfield North) entered to serve and immediately hit an ace to get UC within a point. The Bearcats followed with two Thompson kills and one by Alaiwan for a 24-22 advantage.
- One point later, Thompson's 16th kill of the game won the set for the Bearcats at 25-23.
Set 4: UC 25, TU 15
- Cincinnati rolled with four straight points, including two kills and a solo block from junior Ciara Hill (Bolingbrook, Ill./Bolingbrook) for a 14-8 lead and Temple's second timeout of the set.
- The Bearcats responded with a five-point run led by three Nolan kills for a 20-10 lead.
- Muldrow closed out the match with back-to-back blocks (with Thompson and Hill, respectively) to give Cincinnati the 25-15 win in the fourth game.
