Tingelhoff Leads Bearcats in 3-1 Win over UCF

CINCINNATI, Ohio
- The University of Cincinnati volleyball team came from a set down to win three straight games and beat UCF 3-1 on Friday night in Fifth Third Arena. Freshman Jade Tingelhoff (Lakeville, Minn./Lakeville South) dished out a career-high 50 assists to lead a balanced Bearcats offense that included the emergence of junior Lise Alaiwan (Villeneuve Loubet, France/Kedge Business School) who appeared in her first-career match for Cincinnati and recorded 11 kills and five blocks.

// NOTABLES
- With the win, Cincinnati improves to 10-6 on the year and 2-3 in the American Athletic Conference while UCF falls to 8-9 and 2-3.
- Alaiwan made her UC debut in the match and finished with 11 kills, five blocks and two digs for the Bearcats.
- Freshman Jordan Thompson (Edina, Minn./Edina) finished with 13 kills and has recorded double-digit kill totals in 10 consecutive matches.
- Freshman Abby Williams (Loveland, Ohio/Ursuline Academy) totaled 23 digs and has finished with double-digit digs in all but one match this season.
- Tingelhoff recorded a career-high 50 assists in the match. She also added a career-high three kills and a career-high four blocks to go along with seven digs. The freshman's 50 assists were the most for a Cincinnati setter since Sept. 20, 2014.
- Freshman Carly Nolan (Crystal Lake, Ill./Crystal Lake South) notched her fourth-career double-double with 16 kills and 11 digs for the Bearcats.
- At least three Bearcats recorded double-digit kills for the eighth time this season, including Nolan (16), Thompson (13), sophomore Cortnee Bowser (Kent, Ohio/Theodore Roosevelt) (13) and Alaiwan (11).

// SET BREAKDOWN
Set 1: UCF 25, UC 22

- The Knights scored four of five points to open a 9-5 lead and force head coach Molly Alvey into a timeout. UC recorded a pair of errors during the run to contribute to the UCF lead.
- The Bearcats used three straight points to tie the score at 13-13. Two attacking errors by UCF's Maddie Haggerty got the rally started before an emphatic block by Alaiwan and Thompson forced the Knights into a timeout.
- Another three-point run for the Bearcats put the home team ahead 20-17 and brought about the second UCF timeout of the game. Kills by senior Emma Roberson (Brooks, Ky./Evansville) and Bowser propelled the run.
- The Knights tied the game at 22-22 and scored the next three points to win the game 25-22.
Set 2: UC 25, UCF 22
- Cincinnati put together a run of four straight points, including two kills by Bowser, a kill by Thompson and an ace by Williams to take an 8-5 lead early in the second game.
- The Bearcats attempted to extend the lead but could not shake off a pesky UCF team. The Knights tied the score at 17-17 but back-to-back kills by Thompson and Bowser pushed the lead back to 19-17 and induced a UCF timeout.
- Alvey called a timeout after consecutive UC errors brought UCF within a point at 21-20.
- A block by Alaiwan, her fourth of the match, gave UC set point at 24-22 before the junior finished it off with a kill after a long rally to give the Bearcats the 25-22 victory.
Set 3: UC 25, UCF 11
- Nolan opened the game with a four kills to lead UC to a 6-2 advantage and a UCF timeout.
- The Bearcats opened a 17-7 lead after scoring nine straight points. Tingelhoff, Thompson and Bowser each scored two kills during the run that was propelled by the strong serve and pass game of Williams.
- Cincinnati rolled to a 25-11 win, paced by eight digs from Williams and seven kills from Nolan.
Set 4: UC 25, UCF 23
- The Knights opened a 10-5 lead following a 4-1 scoring run, forcing the Bearcats into a timeout.
- Cincinnati fought back with three straight points, including two UCF errors and a Roberson kill, to get within 11-10 and force a Knights timeout.
- The Bearcats rallied off three straight points for a 17-15 lead and a UCF timeout. Tingelhoff stuffed a solo block and Alaiwan recorded her 11th kill of the match to lead UC.
- The Knights again tied the score at 21-21 but kills by Thompson and Roberson and a UCF attacking error gave UC match point at 24-21. Two points later, UCF's Jale Hervey hit the ball long to give Cincinnati the 3-1 match win.

The Bearcats play host to American foe USF on Sunday, Oct. 11. The match will begin at 1 p.m. from Fifth Third Arena.
