UC Finishes Successful First Day of Invitational

CINCINNATI - The University of Cincinnati women's tennis team wrapped up a successful first day of action at the UC Invitational, recording six singles wins and five doubles wins.

Kelly Poggensee-Wei (Lake Villa, Ill./Grayslake North) and Lauren Bellinger (Dublin, Ohio/Dublin Jerome) won both of their doubles matches, teaming up to quickly defeat Ismail and Liggins from Xaiver by a 6-0 score. They then earned a 6-3 win over Marchant and Bridgham from Dayton.

Natalia Abdalla (Sao Paulo, Brazil/Colegio Augusto Laranja) and Ali Miller (Portsmouth, Ohio/Portsmouth) won a closely contested doubles match against Xavier, eventually defeating DiLorenzo and Brinker by a score of 7-6 and taking the tiebreaker 7-5. Miller teamed up with Antonella Bramato (Pachuca, Mexico/Elise Freinet) to earn a doubles win against Dayton while Abdalla and Wille also saw success in doubles play against the Flyers.

Against Ball State, UC won five of seven singles matches behind strong play from Poggensee-Wei, Bellinger and Miller on the first three courts. Miller again found herself in a close match after winning the first set 6-2 before falling in a second-set tiebreaker 6-7 (7). She battled in the third-set tiebreaker to come away with a 10-6 win. Bramato and Hannah Wille (St. Louis, Mo./Parkway Central) aslo picked up singles wins in the fifth and seventh slots, repectively.
