Volleyball Holds off Tulsa in Five Set Victory

CINCINNATI
- The University of Cincinnati volleyball team prevailed in a back-and-forth 3-2 (28-26, 18-25, 25-23, 19-25, 15-9) victory over Tulsa on Friday night in Fifth Third Arena. Freshman Carly Nolan (Crystal Lake, Ill./Crystal Lake South) recorded her ninth-career double-double to lead the Bearcats with a career-high 21 kills and 13 digs.

// NOTABLES
- With the victory, Cincinnati improves to 16-8 on the year and 9-5 in the American Athletic Conference while Tulsa falls to 11-14 and 6-7.
- Nolan notched her ninth-career, and fourth consecutive, double-double with a career-high 21 kills and 13 digs. The freshman also added three blocks and two assists.
- Freshman Jordan Thompson (Edina, Minn./Edina) finished with 20 kills and has recorded double-digit kill totals in 18 consecutive matches.
- Freshman Abby Williams (Loveland, Ohio/Ursuline Academy) notched 21 digs and has recorded double-digit digs in all but one match this season.
- Freshman Jade Tingelhoff (Lakeville, Minn./Lakeville South) dished out 47 assists and also added a career-high five kills and seven digs.
- The Bearcats finished with 10.5 blocks in the match and have stuffed double-digit blocks on 10 occasions this season.
- It was the second-consecutive five-set match for the Bearcats, and third in the last four matches, including the previous match against Tulsa which Cincinnati won 3-2 on Oct. 25 in Oklahoma.
- Cincinnati is 2-3 in five-set matches on the season.

Set 1: UC 28, Tulsa 26

- The Golden Hurricane opened a 9-4 lead early in the game, thanks in part to three UC attacking errors, to force a timeout by head coach Molly Alvey.
- A three-point scoring run got Cincinnati within a point at 11-10 and the home team finally tied the game at 15-15 on a service ace by senior Amelia Wegman (Aurora, Ill./Rosary), bringing a Tulsa timeout.
- The Bearcats took a 19-18 lead on a kill by junior Lise Alaiwan (Villeneuve Loubet, France/Kedge Business School) but Tulsa answered with a block and a kill for a 21-20 lead and a UC timeout.
- A triple block by Alaiwan, Nolan and junior Ciara Hill (Bolingbrook, Ill./Bolingbrook) gave the Bearcats a 24-23 lead but Tulsa was able to tie the score at 24-24 with a kill by Erica Bohannon.
- The teams traded points until the Bearcats used a UT error and a block by Alaiwan and Thompson to go ahead 27-26. On the next play, redshirt junior Alison Kimmel (Plainfield, Ill./Plainfield North) displayed great hustle to keep the ball alive, leading to a Alaiwan/Tingelhoff block for a 28-26 UC victory.
Set 2: Tulsa 25, UC 18
- The Bearcats held a 6-4 lead until a five-point Tulsa run gave the Golden Hurricane a 9-6 advantage. The rally included two blocks and a UC error.
- Hill slammed back an overpass to get the Bearcats within two at 17-15, forcing a Tulsa timeout. Out of the break, the Golden Hurricane scored four straight with two kills and two UC errors to increase their lead to 21-15.
- A kill by Alaiwan delayed one set point for Tulsa, but a kill by Trinity Alualu gave the visitors the victory at 25-18 and tied the match at 1-1 at the break.
Set 3: UC 25, Tulsa 23
- Cincinnati scored three in a row, including a kill and a service ace by Nolan, for a 15-13 advantage.
- Two kills by Nolan gave the Bearcats a 22-20 lead and forced a Tulsa timeout.
- The Golden Hurricane fought off a pair of game points for UC with a kill and a block by Ashley Hooper to get within 24-23 and force a Bearcats timeout.
- On the next play, Thompson launched her 11th kill of the match off the arms of a defender to give UC the third-set win.
Set 4: Tulsa 25, UC 19
- The visitors grabbed a 14-11 lead following back-to-back Cincinnati errors, forcing a Bearcats timeout.
- The UT lead increased to 20-16 after consecutive kills by Bohannon but a service error and a kill by Nolan got the Bearcats right back in it at 20-18.
- The Golden Hurricane closed out the game with three straight kills to win 25-19 and force a decisive fifth game.
Set 5: UC 15, Tulsa 9
- Cincinnati opened a 5-2 lead following a pair of kills by Thompson.
- A kill by Nolan gave Cincinnati the 8-4 lead at the court switch and a block by Alaiwan and Nolan increased the lead to 9-4, forcing a Tulsa timeout. The Bearcats rolled from there to a 12-4 advantage before a Tulsa kill finally ended the scoring run.
- The Golden Hurricane rallied for three straight points, and a UC timeout, with two kills by Rebecca Reeve.
- On UC's second-match point opportunity, Bohannon hit it wide for a 15-9 fifth-set victory and a 3-2 Bearcats match win.
