OXFORD, Ohio -- The University of Cincinnati swimming and diving teams saw the men capture a dramatic victory of Miami (Ohio) on Wednesday night while splitting a meet with the RedHawks. The UC men won by a score of 151-147, while the women's side fell to MU, 178-118.

Action on the men's side started with a Bearcats victory in the 200 medley relay. Dmytro Turkin (Krivoy Rog, Ukraine) led off the relay, followed by Ludovico Corsini (Cinisello Balsamo, Italy.), Eitan Holder (Caracas, Venezuela) and Alex Hutchinson (Harrison, Ohio/Harrison), finishing with a time of 1:33.18.

Individual action opened with Connor Davis (Cincinnati, Ohio/Anderson) collecting first place points in the 200 free with a time of 1:41.31. Turkin earned a second-place finish in the 100 backstroke before Corsini and Zach Hostoffer (Highland Heights, Ohio/Gilmour Academy) finished one-two in the 100 breaststroke. Corsini clocked in with a time of 55.19.

Ryan DePietro (Lancaster, Ohio/Lancaster) secured the next victory for UC, finishing the 200 butterfly in 1:53.64. Davis and Hutchinson finished second and third in the 50 free before Holder and Davis earned a one-two finish in the 100 free. Holder posted a time of 46.54, just ahead of Davis' mark of 46.71.

Todd Brannon (Duluth, Ga./Norcross) kept the momentum going with a win in the 200 backstroke, clocking in at 1:52.81. MU took the win in the 200 breaststroke, but UC finished earned big points in second, third and fourth. Tyler Roehr (Cottage Grove, Wis./Monona Grove) led that trio with a time of 2:05.53, followed by Brandon Keller (Charlotte, N.C./Olympic) and Nik Balmer (Rio Rancho, N.M./Rio Rancho).

Bready collected his second win of the day in the 500 freestyle with a time of 4:34.94. He was followed by Justin Crew (Springfield, Ohio/Shawnee) in second thanks to a time of 4:40.55. Turkin was the top UC finisher in the 100 butterfly, coming in third with a mark of 51.76.

MU also took first-place points in the 200 individual medley, but Keller, DePietro and Brannon finished second, third and fourth for pivotal points. The Bearcats then clinched the meet in the 400 freestyle relay. UC's top squad of Davis, Holder, Turkin and Hunter Pasek (Villa Hills, Ky./Covington Catholic) finished in 3:06.53, while the group of Crew, Tommy Easley (Cincinnati, Ohio/Turpin), Hutchinson and Hostoffer was second in 3:10.03.

// WOMEN'S RECAP

Sara Wanasek (Burlington, Wis./Burlington) won the first individual event of the day, taking the 1,000 freestyle in 10:24.17. She was followed by teammate Taylor Myszka (Dayton, Ohio/Centerville) in second with a mark of 10:25.77.

Lindsey Niehaus (Cincinnati, Ohio/Seton) collected the next first place finish of the day, taking the 100 backstroke in 57.33. That was followed by Samantha Wheatley (Maple Glen, Pa./Upper Dublin) winning the 200 butterfly in 2:07.00.

The RedHawks pulled away with a one-two-three finish in the 50 freestyle, followed by earning the top four spots in the 100 freestyle.

Myszka and Wanasek earned another one-two finish in the 500 freestyle, but flipped this time as Myszka won in 5:05.56, followed by Wanasek in 5:08.59.

// BEARCATS ON THE BOARD

Ellen Posch (Cleveland Heights, Ohio/Cleveland Heights) was the top finisher for the UC women on the one-meter with a score of 263.84 which was good for third. She also had the top score on the three-meter board at 252.90.

Louis Hunt (Lakeside Park, Ky./Covington Catholic) was the top men's finisher at both heights. His 273.67 score on the one-meter was good for sixth, as was his mark of 301.20 on the three-meter board.

The Bearcats return to action this weekend when they travel to the Kenyon Invitational. The meet in Gambier, Ohio, runs Friday and Saturday, Jan. 15-16.
