Complete Results // VIDEO: Blaut Clears 1.86m
CINCINNATI - The University of Cincinnati track and field program opened its 2016 indoor season at the Kentucky Invitational and concluded action Saturday inside Nutter Field House in Lexington, Ky., with a pair of individual records, 11 personal bests and six times/marks that rank among the Top 10 in program history. Several newcomers also had immediate impacts for the Bearcats with four of those six all-time bests coming from the first-time performers. A breakdown of the top performances can be found below:
// WOMEN'S RESULTS
- Competing in her first indoor meet after taking a redshirt last year, Loretta Blaut made a splash in the high jump as she took home the title with a clearance of 1.86m (6-01.25), finishing 3.25 inches above the field, including teammate and event runner-up Erika Hurd, who cleared 1.78m (5-10.00). With her clearance, Blaut not only surpassed all outdoor marks she tallied last year (best was 1.78m), she also moved into a tie with Hurd for the second-highest clearance in program history. In early result postings through Saturday evening, Blaut would currently sit third on the NCAA descending order list.
- Haisha Bisiolu also got off to a fast start in her first collegiate indoor meet as the rookie clocked times of 7.70m in the 60m dash and 24.98 in the 200m dash. Overall, she placed 20th and 19th, respectively, in those races while adding her name to the program's all-time ledger. She now holds the seventh-fastest time in UC history in the 60m event while standing eighth all-time in the 200m.
- In the long jump, Rebecka Abrahamsson and Kellsa Mbah both placed in the Top 8, posting leaps of 5.74m (18-10.00) and 5.57m (18-03.25), respectively. The school's triple jump record holder, Abrahamsson moved up further on the long jump chart as she took over the No. 6 position, just 2cm (1.75") behind Mbah for fifth all-time.
- Following her huge PR and school-record toss in the weight throw one night earlier, Annette Echikunwoke returned to the throwing circle and posted a mark of 14.36m (47-01.50), which is just 3cm off her personal best set one year ago. Echikunwoke placed 15th in the event with teammate Leah Heckaman just behind her in 17th with a best of 14.24m (46-08.75).
- Among the distance events, Alexis Anton turned in the team's top mile time, finishing 19th overall in 5:12.10. Her time, which betters her previous PR by nearly three seconds, just missed the program's Top 10 list, finishing 0.12 seconds off the No. 10 time (5:11.82). Anton came back later in the day and ran on the 4x400m relay team to close out the meet.
// MEN'S RESULTS
- Jimmy Brooks made a solid debut for the Bearcats as the junior, who transferred from Western Texas CC, placed second overall in the 400m dash with a time of 47.80 before taking fifth place in the 200m dash with a time of 21.63. Overall, both of those times rank as the fifth-fastest in UC history in their respective events. Also in the 400m event, teammate Jaashir Morris ran 49.86 to place eighth, giving the Bearcats a pair of Top 8 placers, one of only two teams to do so.
- Adrian Valles was the lone male to win an event on the weekend as he captured the pole vault competition with a top clearance of 5.25m (17-02.75). The win marked his seventh collegiate victory in the event and his first at the Kentucky Invitational following a runner-up finish one year ago.
- The middle and long distances also had several strong finishes with Jarrod Hart (800m) and Seamus Collins (3,000m) placing in the Top 8. Hart finished eighth in the half-mile event, clocking in at 1:54.62 while Collins ran 8:30.10 in the 3,000m, missing out on the program's all-time Top 10 by three seconds.
- Alex Bloom, who competed in three events on the day (60m hurdles, long jump, high jump), capped his meet with a sixth-place showing in the high jump as he cleared 2.04m (6-08.25). That mark equals his collegiate personal best.
- Macklin Tudor recorded a Top 10 finish in the shot put for the Bearcats as he finished sixth at 17.55m (57-07.00).
The Bearcats return to indoor action next week for their first of back-to-back meets at Indiana University where they will participate in the 2016 Gladstein Invitational on Friday and Saturday (January 22-23).
