CINCINNATI -- The University of Cincinnati swimming and diving team secured a sweep of Wright State on Saturday, Jan. 23, at the Keating Aquatics Center. The meet served as senior day for the program's eight seniors and was the final home meet of the year.

Jacqueline Keire (Burlington, Ont./Nelson) opened the meet with a bang, winning the 1,000 freestyle by roughly 10 seconds. The junior All-American swam distance events in the course of her training to defend Female Outstanding Swimmer honors as the American Athletic Conference championships next month. Keire followed with wins in the 100 freestyle (50.81) and 500 freestyle (5:03.75).
Sophomore Samantha Wheatley (Maple Glen, Pa./Upper Dublin) joined Keire as a multi-event winner on the women's side. Wheatley, who prior to the dual meet at Miami (Ohio) last week had not won a collegiate event, captured the 200 butterfly in 2:09.17 before winning the 400 individual medley in 4:33.12.
Sydney King (Granville, Ohio/Granville/Western Kentucky) also collected two victories on the day. King won the 200 freestyle in 1:54.99, leading a one-two-three finish for UC. She was followed by Taylor Myszka (Dayton, Ohio/Centerville) in 1:55.93 and Shea Hanley (Indianapolis, Ind./North Central/Univ. of Indianapolis) in 1:57.05. King also won the 200 backstroke in a one-two-three UC finish. She finished in 2:06.12 ahead of Tal Kidron (Tsurit, Israel/Hof HaSharon) in 2:07.67 and Caroline Sheehan (Greenwood, Ind./Center Grove) in 2:12.03.
Cincinnati also took the 100 backstroke thanks to Lindsey Niehaus (Cincinnati, Ohio/Seton) finishing in 57.96, just ahead of Kidron's mark of 59.15. The 100 breaststroke was a victory for Kennedy Herbert (Green, Ohio/Green), who touched in 1:05.07.
The women capped the meet with a victory in the 400 freestyle relay. Sara Wanasek (Burlington, Wis./Burlington), Niehaus, Katherine Gob (Louisville, Ky./Ballard) and Keire finished in 3:31.12.

Men's action kicked off with a dramatic victory in the 200 medley relay. Dmytro Turkin (Krivoy Rog, Ukraine), Ludovico Corsini (Cinisello Balsamo, Italy), Nick Lafleur (Montreal, Quebec/Loyola) and Connor Davis (Cincinnati, Ohio/Anderson) clocked in a 1:32.70, just ahead of the Wright State quartet which finished in 1:32.88.
Chris Bready (Missouri City, Texas/Lawrence E. Elkins) started the individual events with a win in the 1,000 freestyle. He touched in 9:16.30, winning by well over 30 seconds. Bready would go on to win the 500 freestyle with a time of 4:37.48.
After three straight victories by the visitors, UC seized the momentum with a one-two-three finish in the 100 breaststroke. Corsini won with a time of 56.38, followed by Zach Hostoffer (Highland Heights, Ohio/Gilmour Academy) in 57.26 and Tyler Roehr in 58.41.
Senior Alex Hutchinson (Harrison, Ohio/Harrison/Ohio State) provided a senior day moment in the 50 freestyle, leading another one-two-three finish. He touched at 21.15, just ahead of Lafleur at 21.99 and fellow senior Tommy Easley (Cincinnati, Ohio/Turpin) in 22.03.
Davis followed with the next victory in the 100 free. He clocked in at 46.00. Tyler Roehr (Cottage Grove, Wis./Monona Grove) followed with a win in the 200 breaststroke thanks to a time of 2:05.77.
Ryan DePietro (Lancaster, Ohio/Lancaster) capped the individual action with a first-place finish in the 400 IM, touching in 4:01.87. The Bearcats capped the day with a win in the 400 freestyle relay. Davis, Eitan Holder (Caracas, Venezuela/Aviv (Israel)), Easley and Hutchinson finished in 3:05.54.

Diving competition took place at Keating on Friday night, Jan. 22. Ellen Posch (Cleveland Heights, Ohio/Cleveland Heights) secured first-place points for UC on the one-meter board thanks to a score of 267.20. She then placed second on the three-meter board with a mark of 272.90. Ryan Hunter (Vandalia, Ohio/Butler) led the men on the one-meter with a mark of 225.10, while Caleb Aho (Findlay, Ohio/Findlay) was UC's top finisher on the three-meter at 223.45.

The Bearcats travel south to Lexington, Kentucky, next weekend to conclude the regular season at Kentucky. The Saturday, Jan. 30, meet is set for 1 p.m. ET.
