CINCINNATI - University of Cincinnati baseball player R.J. Thompson (Mason, Ohio/Mason) picked up a prestigious honor on Thursday, being named Second Team All-American Athletic Conference by College Sports Madness. The junior was one of six outfielders selected to the All-Conference teams and one of three placed on the second team.

Thompson was second on the team with a .274 batting average in 2015 to go along with 45 hits which also ranked second for the Bearcats. Additionally, he recorded six doubles and 25 RBIs with 14 walks and four stolen bases. His abilities were most on display last season during a game at No. 29 Nevada on March 19 when he hit his first-career homerun and triple and finished with career bests in hits (three), RBIs (three), runs scored (three) and total bases (eight).

It is the first preseason recognition for Thompson and UC this season. The entire College Sports Madness Preseason All-American Athletic Conference list can be found here.

The Bearcats kick off the 2016 season with three games at No. 11 LSU in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, on Feb. 19-21.
