BLOOMINGTON, IN - The first day of competition came to a close Friday night inside the Gladstein Fieldhouse with several members of the University of Cincinnati program posting big marks against some tough competition. Erika Hurd nearly tied the school record in the women's high jump with three other Bearcats posting marks that rank them among the program's all-time Top 10.

- Erika Hurd put together a solid performance in the high jump as she won the event with a top clearance of 1.84m (6-00.50), her season best. After clearing the bar at 1.84m, it was raised to 1.87m, which, had she cleared it, would have tied her for the school record. Despite the near clearance, Hurd finished the day with a mark amongst the Top 10 in the NCAA this season and give the Bearcats two women in the Top 10 (Loretta Blaut, #3).
- In what seems to be a weekly occurrence, Annette Echikunwoke continued her assault on the record book, this time moving up one spot to the No. 2 position with her toss of 15.58m (51-01.50). The runner-up in the event, Echikunwoke twice posted personal-best throws with both ranking as the No. 2 mark. She also is No. 1 all-time at UC in the weight throw.
- Aliya Barnes finished 10th in the preliminary round of the 60m hurdles and did so in 8.81, which places her No. 10 on UC's all-time chart. Barnes is the third current member of the team that ranks among the Top 10 all-time as Je'Rica Sanders (No. 2) and Javette Lee (tied for No. 4) are on the list, too.

- For the second week in a row, Mykel Chambers has entered the 60m dash at an event at IU and, for the second time, ran 6.92, the ninth-fastest in school history. The freshman advances to the final of the event to be run Saturday.
- A pair of long jumpers placed among the Top 8 in the event with Sergio Acera Villanueva finishing fourth and Tariq Sanders eighth. Acera posted a best of 7.04m (23-01.25) while Sanders' best was 6.91m (22-08.00).
- In the field, freshman John Zedella advance to the finals of the shot put where he placed eighth overall. Just under his PR, Zedella finished with a best of 15.09m (49-06.25).
- The men's pole vault had two entrants and also two men tied for fourth in the final standings. Both Cody Curry and Colt Robinson cleared 4.61m (15-01.50) before bowing out of the event.
- In the men's 60m hurdles, the third heat of the event pitted a pair of former Bearcats against one another as Terrence Somerville and David Payne squared off. Somerville would post the second-fastest time on the day while Payne, running in just his second race after recovering from an injury sustained four years ago, posted the fifth-best mark to advance to the final, which will be held tomorrow.
