STORRS, Conn. - The University of Cincinnati women's basketball team dropped an 88-34 decision to the No. 1 UConn Huskies on Wednesday evening inside Gampel Pavilion.

// THE SHORT STORY
After playing a solid opening quarter in which they took the first lead of the game, tied the score at 15 with three minutes to play and faced only a 25-19 deficit to begin the second period, the Bearcats (7-18, 3-11 The American) were unable to hang with the top-ranked UConn Huskies (25-0, 14-0 The American) over the course of 40 minutes as UC fell, 88-34. UC trailed 45-25 at halftime, but was then outscored 43-9 in the second half.

- UC got off to a good initial start with junior guard Bianca Quisenberry (Springfield, Ohio/Tecumseh) burying a corner three-pointer to give the Bearcats an early 3-0 lead. UConn answered back with a 7-0 run before Quisenberry snapped it with an elbow jumper at the 6:44 mark of the opening quarter. UC trailed 15-7 with 5:06 to go in the quarter, but responded with an 8-0 run, aided by a pair of triples from senior guard Jasmine Whitfield (Crestwood, Ky./South Oldham) to pull even at 15 with 3:37 left in the period. UConn countered with a 10-4 run to close the quarter.
- The Huskies started the second period with a 9-2 run to pull ahead by a then-game-high 13 points, 34-21, with 5:13 remaining before halftime. The Bearcats suffered a near-five-minute scoring drought in the quarter before sophomore guard Ana Owens (Indianapolis, Ind./Lawrence North) nailed a jumper at the 3:39 mark of the period. In total, UC was outscored 20-6 in the quarter as it faced a 45-25 deficit at halftime.
- UConn stormed out of the break with a 20-0 run -- halted by a redshirt senior guard Alyesha Lovett (Newark, N.J./Malcolm X Shabazz) basket at the 2:49 mark of the third quarter -- to take control of the game. The Bearcats were 2-of-13 from the floor in the period, while the Huskies shot a blistering 12-of-14 from the floor.
- In the final period, UC was outscored 15-4 as the three-time defending National Champions cruised to victory.
