CINCINNATI - The University of Cincinnati track and field program sent 12 individuals to compete at the Buckeye Tune-Up at Ohio State's French Field House in Columbus, Ohio, Friday evening with three Bearcats claiming titles in the single-day event. UC swept the pole vault competitions with Brooke Catherine and Adrian Valles taking top honors in the women's and men's pole vault, respectively, while Loretta Blaut was the top collegiate entry in the women's high jump.
Overall, 10 individuals competed in field events for the Bearcats while the remaining two competitors took to the track.
// WOMEN'S RESULTS
- Freshman Brooke Catherine captured her first collegiate victory as she cleared 3.67m (12-00.50) to win the pole vault. A pair of her teammates competed in the event as well with Sadie Brass clearing 3.37m (11-00.75) to finish in a tie for 10th-place while Alyssa McBride did not clear a height in the event.
- Loretta Blaut, with a clearance of 1.78m (5-10.00), finished at the top of the standings, equalling the best clearance of the day, but taking second overall on misses. Blaut was the top collegiate competitor, earning 10 team points in the process.
- Nicole Breeden competed in the weight throw, finishing 11th overall with a best of 16.33m (53-07.00). Her mark, which is a personal-best, puts her 11th all-time in program history, just 1cm off the No. 10 spot (16.34m).
- Cassidy Carey raced in the 800m event, turning in a personal-best time of 2:24.40. That time saw her place 10th overall in the event.
- Alanna Hendricks clocked a season-best time of 7.79 in the semifinals of the 60m dash, a time that placed her ninth overall. She missed advancing to the final as only the Top 8 in the semifinals moved on.
// MEN'S RESULTS
- Adrian Valles easily won the pole vault as he topped the field with a clearance of 5.37m (17-07.25), posting a season-best mark in the process. With his final clearance, the returning All-American moved into the national Top 20, meaning he will need a higher clearance at the conference meet next week to earn a spot in the NCAA Championships as only the Top 16 make the national meet.
- Two other men in the pole vault tallied personal-best clearances as Colt Robinson (fourth) and Nathan Alexander (fifth) both cleared 4.92m (16-01.75). The mark is a personal-best for Robinson and gives him his first collegiate clearance of 16 feet or better while Alexander tied his PR, but also posted a season-high for the fourth week in a row (has competed in four meets this year). Cody Curry was the final competitor for the men, finishing eighth with a best of 4.62m (15-01.75).
- Macklin Tudor was the lone Bearcats thrower for the men in the competition as he took part in the shot put, finishing sixth overall with a best of 16.88m (55-04.75).
The 2016 American Athletic Conference Indoor Track & Field Championships will be the next meet the Bearcats compete, heading to the CrossPlex in Birmingham, Ala. The two day meet runs Sunday-Monday, February 28-29.
