CINCINNATI - The University of Cincinnati women's basketball team was upended by the Temple Owls, 74-49, on Tuesday evening inside Fifth Third Arena.
// THE SHORT STORY
UC (7-16, 3-9 The American) dug itself a bit of a hole early on, trailing Temple (16-7, 10-2 The American) 26-8 at the end of the first quarter. The Bearcats countered, though, late in the second period with a 9-0 run to bring the score to 32-19, Temple, at the break. Again finding late-quarter momentum, UC responded to a 21-point deficit in the third quarter with a 9-2 rally to end the period. An 11-0 run to begin the final quarter by the Owls proved lethal, though, as the Bearcats couldn't recover resulting in a 74-49 defeat.

- The Bearcats faced an early 5-0 deficit and saw the Owls open the first five minutes of the game on a 16-4 run. Temple progressed to lead 26-8 at the end of the first quarter.
- After trailing by as many as 22 with 5:21 left in the second period, UC put together a 9-0 surge to end the quarter to reduce TU's advantage to 32-19 heading into halftime.
- Facing a 37-23 deficit with 7:47 to play in the third quarter, the Bearcats surrendered a 9-2 burst as Temple increased its lead to 21 with 3:51 remaining in the period.
- Looking to dig out of its hole, UC cut a 46-25 deficit to 48-34 with a 9-2 streak to end the third quarter.
- Temple opened the final period with an 11-0 run to pull ahead by 23 points with 7:45 left to play. Over the next minute, the Bearcats reduced the deficit to 19, but that would be the closest they would get for the duration of the game as the Owls flew away for a 74-59 victory.

- The Bearcats scored 20 points in the paint to mark the 16th time this season they have scored 20 or more in the painted area in a game.
- Cincinnati got 13 or more points from its bench for the second-straight game with 14 on the night. In total, eight Bearcats scored in the game.
- The Bearcats got to the free throw line 10 times, knocking down seven attempts.
- UC dished out six assists on eight made field goals in the first half, but had only three additional assists in the second half.

- Sophomore guard Ana Owens (Indianapolis, Ind./Lawrence North) scored in double-figures for the 18th time this season and the 36th time of her career with a team-leading 15 points. The sophomore has led the Bearcats in scoring 10 times this season and 24 times in her career.
- In her seventh start of the season, junior guard Brandey Tarver (Chicago, Ill./Bogan Computer Technical) totaled season bests of nine points and seven rebounds. The junior's rebound total was a team best.
- Freshman guard Maya Benham (Douglasville, Ga./Osborne) came off the bench to score six points in nine minutes.
- Senior guard Jasmine Whitfield (Crestwood, Ky./South Oldham) tallied Bearcats bests of four assists and two steals.
