Bearcats Duo Tied for 13th at Purdue Tournament

University of Cincinnati senior Emerson Newsome and junior Jared O'Kelley are tied with three other players for 13th place at even par 144 after two rounds at the Boilermaker Invitational at the Kampen Golf Course (par 72, 7,465 yards) in West Lafayette, Indiana.

Newsome (72-72=144) paired together par rounds in the morning and afternoon, posting a combined nine birdies and 18 par scores. O'Kelley carded a 1-under 71 in the second round after posting a 1-over 73 in the morning's opening round. O'Kelley's effort included a combined seven birdies and 23 par scores.

UC freshman Austin Squires ranks tied for 44th place at 75-74=149.

"Emerson and Jared were very good the entire day," UC head coach Doug Martin. "Austin did some good things as well. He is still making some freshman errors but he's close."

Illinois' Charlie Danielson leads the 84-player field at 9-under 70-65=135. Illinois leads in the team standings as well at 19-under 280-277=557. Cincinnati is tied for eighth in the 15-team event at 14-over 298-92=590.

"We need to come out Sunday and play like we want something," Martin said. "We need to get some help from our No. 4 and No. 5 players."
