CINCINNATI - It was only fitting that the seniors set the pace for the University of Cincinnati track and field team at its lone home meet of the season as the Bearcats took home the team titles in the 2016 Oliver Nikoloff Invitational on Senior Day at Gettler Stadium Saturday. Following a late-morning ceremony to honor its 19 seniors, several of those individuals would go on to win a total of five individual events with one anchoring a victorious relay squad, too.
In total, the women recorded 23 personal-best marks over the weekend with three standing among the Top 10 in UC history despite chilly and windy conditions. The men chipped in 12 PR's, giving the Bearcats 35 overall. UC's women posted 21 Top 3 finishes, including 10 victories, while the men added 12 finishes in the Top 3 with five going for wins.
In the team standings, the Bearcat women ran away with the title, scoring 276 points to easily outdistance itself from runner-up Ohio State (111) and third-place finisher Tiffin (90). On the men's side, the Bearcats also captured the crown, scoring 153 total points to slip past runner-up Tiffin (135) and third-place Eastern Michigan (106) in the standings.

- One of the seniors that had a solid day was Kenya Woodall, whom won both the 100m (11.87) and 200m (23.51) dashes while also anchoring the 4x100m relay of Alanna Hendricks, Haisha Bisiolu and Bryana Robinson to the win in 46.70. While she has a better time in the 100m dash this outdoor season, her 200m time ranks as the fastest in the American Athletic Conference through the first two weeks of the season.
- Kellsa Mbah also had quite a day in the field events as she won the long jump and took second in the triple jump, marking the first time she has competed in the event. First, she took the long jump crown with a leap of 5.82m (19-01.25), which ranks as the seventh-best all-time in UC history, and was 1cm ahead of teammate and event runner-up Rebecka Abrahamsson, who posted the program's No. 8 mark at 5.81m (19-00.75). Mbah came back later for the triple jump, posting a mark of 11.67m (38-03.50), which stands as the third-best all-time in program history.
- Back to victorious seniors, Alyssa McBride battled through stiff cross winds to win the pole vault in her final home contest, clearing 3.90m (12-09.50) to take the win. Teammate and rookie Brooke Catherine cleared 3.60m (11-09.75) to take runner-up honors.
- Loretta Blaut captured the high jump with a leap of 1.74m (5-08.50) with senior Ashleigh Pickens taking second with a best clearance of 1.69m (5-06.50).
- Annette Echikunwoke (15.19m/49-10.00) and Aliya Barnes (14.02) posted UC's remaining individual victories as they captured the titles in the shot put and 100m hurdles, respectively.
- The 4x400m relay was won by UC, giving the Bearcats the sweep of the sprint relays. The group of Bryana Robinson, Alexis Anton, Meg Westerheide and Tes Corea combined to run 4:05.31 for the win to close out the meet. It was the second win of the day for Westerheide, who a short time earlier took home gold in the 1,500m run (4:44.08).

- Senior Colt Robinson battled the harsh conditions to make back-to-back victories in the pole vault, clearing 4.60m (15-01.00) for the win. One week earlier, Robinson cleared a career-best 5.10m (16-08.75) to win at the Hurricane Twilight and post the seventh-best mark in UC history.
- Chris Greene closed out his home career in the triple jump as the senior won the event, taking gold with a leap of 14.24m (46-08.75).
- Alex Bloom had a strong day as he won the high jump and took third in a pair of other field events, too. In the high jump, he won the event with his clearance of 2.03m (6-08.00), bettering his outdoor collegiate PR by 1cm. In the pole vault, he cleared 4.30m (14-01.25) to equal his PR and take third overall before finishing in the same placement in the long jump with a mark of 6.73m (22-01.00).
- The Bearcat men swept the sprint relays on the day with the team of Tevin-Lloyd Thompson, Khalid Fuller, Jeyson Jones and Sergio Acera Villanueva winning the 4x100m relay in 42.89 to open the day before the quartet of Ryan Greene, Jimmy Brooks, Nathan Smith and Halen Witcher combined to take gold in the 4x400m relay with a time of 3:22.19.
- Nick Grismer posted the best finish of the day in the distance events as he took fourth in the 3,000m steeplechase, finishing in 9:59.16.
- Macklin Tudor, who is redshirting this outdoor season, competed in the discus as an unattached athlete and won the event with a big toss of 59.57m (195-05). While not quite up to his personal best, Tudor did make a bit of history as that toss now stands as both the meet and Gettler Stadium record.
The Bearcats return to the road next weekend for a one-day meet at the University of Virginia as the Cavaliers will play host to the Onesty/Abramson Invitational in Charlottesville, Va., on Saturday, April 9.
