MEMPHIS, Tenn. - The University of Cincinnati women's tennis team pulled off a 4-2 upset win over Temple in Wednesday's opening round of the American Athletic Conference Championship. The 10th-seeded Bearcats earned the victory over the seventh-seeded Owls.

Antonella Bramato (Pachuca, Mexico/Elise Freinet) and Katya Bure (Springfield, N.J./Jonathan Dayton) added a 6-1 win at No. 3 while Lauren Bellinger (Dublin, Ohio/Dublin Jerome) and Ali Miller (Portsmouth, Ohio/Portsmouth) secured a 6-3 win at No. 1

Temple evened the score with a victory at No. 1 before Bellinger and Bramato pushed momentum back on the Bearcats side. Bramato won at No. 3 in straight sets, 6-2, 6-3 while Bellinger needed a three-set win by scores of 6-2, 2-6, 6-3 to claim her victory.
The Owls tightened things up with a win on court No. 4 before the Bearcats secured the match thanks to a win from Harley Hutchison () at No. 5. After winning the opening set 6-4, Hutchison answered a second set loss with a definitive 6-0 win to give Cincinnati the victory.

"This was a really hard fought match today and everyone is really happy to advance to the quarterfinals," stated head coach Eric Toth of the win. "As always, Temple really competed well and are a tough team to put away. We have a quick turnaround to get ready for an excellent USF team tomorrow. We'll enjoy our win tonight, hope to have a good night of recovery and be ready to go."

The Bearcats advance to the quarterfinals on Thursday where they will face No. 2 seed USF at 4 p.m. ET/3 p.m. CT. The match will be the first for the Bulls, who received a first-round bye.
