T&F: Hardiman, Blaut Clear Personal-Bests at Penn Relays

April 29, 2016

PHILADELPHIA - The second day of action at the 122nd Penn Relays came a close for the University of Cincinnati track and field program on Friday afternoon as a small group of Bearcats competed in several events on another cold and dreary day at Franklin Field in Philadelphia. All told, four women and 11 men competed on Day Two of the Relays, including a pair of relay races for the men and a strong showing in both high jump competitions.

// WOMEN'S RESULTS
- In the championship division of the high jump, both Loretta Blaut and Erika Hurd cleared 1.78m (5-10.00) to finish third and fourth, respectively, in the event. Blaut's clearance equaled her PR from earlier this year at the season-opening Hurricane Twilight in Miami, Fla., a mark that also ranks fifth all-time in UC history.
- The only other event on the day for the women came in the triple jump with two Bearcats competing in separate divisions. First up was Rebecka Abrahamsson, the 2015 college division winner, taking on the championship field, where she placed fourth overall. Her top mark of the competition was 12.65m (41-06.00). Kellsa Mbah too part in the college division later in the day, but was unable to obtain a fair mark.

// MEN'S RESULTS
- Jordan Hardiman cleared a personal-best height of 2.04m (6-08.25) in the collegiate high jump competition, placing seventh overall, while Alex Bloom tied for 16th in the same competition with a best of 1.96m (6-05.00). Hardiman, who entered the meet with an outdoor PR of 2.01m, cleared the opening two heights of 1.96m and 2.00m, the later tying a season-best at the time, before he cleared the following height to move up in the standings. He was unable to clear 2.08m, but still finishes with a PR in the event two weeks out from the conference meet.
- Colt Robinson took sixth in the college division of the pole vault, clearing 4.70m (15-05.00) amid foul conditions. Vaulting into a head wind and the heaviest rain so far this week, Robinson was able to get over the first three heights before bowing out.
- In the lone throwing event of the day, Josh Province placed 12th overall in the college division of the discus, hitting a mark of 47.24m (154-11).
- On the track, the team of Dan Huben (1,200m), Jimmy Brooks (400m), Jarrod Hart (800m) and Seamus Collins (1,600m) combined to run 10:14.39 in the distance medley relay, finishing 17th overall in the event. Huben clocked a split of 3:13.7 before Brooks ran a blazing 47.3 leg. Hart continued with a 1:54.3 split on his leg of the race before Collins closed out the event with a 4:18.8.
- The day came to a close with the heats of the 4x400m relay where the team of Halen Witcher, Brooks, Hart and Ryan Greene combined to run 3:17.95 to finish 35th overall. Brooks, for the second time on the day, posted a solid split in the quarter, this time going 47.4 on the second leg of the race, while Hart and Greene both broke 50 seconds, each running 49.9.

The Penn Relays conclude on Saturday with a pair of Bearcats competing, including Adrian Valles in the championship division of the men's pole vault and Province in the hammer throw.
