T&F: Valles Claims Penn Relays Title in Pole Vault

April 30, 2016

Final Stats

PHILADELPHIA - The University of Cincinnati track and field team competed in a pair of meets Saturday with two men taking on their respective fields at the 122nd Penn Relays in Philadelphia, Pa., while a group of Bearcats traveled north to Oxford, Ohio, to compete in Miami's RedHawk Invitational. Overall, 13 personal bests were attained in Oxford, including two that now rank among the program's all-time Top 10, while Adrian Valles took home the gold at Penn in the pole vault. Along with Valles, the Bearcats posted a total of six wins on the day.

Valles' victory was the second of the weekend after Leah Heckaman captured the collegiate division in the women's shot put on Thursday. The duo also combined for a bit of history as they marked the first time in program history that two Penn Relays titles were won in the same season. Their wins, combined with the victory Rebecka Abrahamsson recorded in the collegiate division of the women's triple jump in 2015, gives UC three titles in two years, more than doubling the program's total prior to 2015 when it had just two crowns.
