AUBURN, Ala. - The first day of action at the Tiger Track Classic in Auburn, Ala., came to a close Friday night for the University of Cincinnati track and field program with 12 individuals competing in the opening six events of the meet, including the hammer throw, triple jump and 5,000m run. Overall, four personal-best marks were recorded on the day which included all three runners in the 5,000m event along with another school record in the hammer from Annette Echikunwoke.

// WOMEN'S RESULTS
- Much like she did indoors, Echikunwoke got back to breaking records this week as she reset the school record in the hammer throw for the second time in three meets, this time surpassing the 60-meter line with her toss of 60.37m (198-01). A PR by nearly one and one-half feet, her big toss came in the third round of the competition and held up as the eighth-best of the meet overall. Monica Phillips and Nicole Breeden also competed in the event, placing 11th and 17th overall, respectively.
- Rebecka Abrahamsson made her outdoor season debut in the triple jump, finishing second overall and first among collegiate entries as she posted a best of 12.78m (41-11.25), despite a strong headwind down the runway. Abrahamsson, who was the runner-up by only 3cm, posted three measured marks, all of which were within 3cm of each other (12.78m, 12.75m, 12.77m).
- On the track, the lone runner for UC was freshman Samantha Simms, who finished 12th overall in the 5,000m run with a personal-best time of 17:59.79. That time beat her previous best by nearly 24 seconds as she ran 18:23.43 last week in Cincinnati.

// MEN'S RESULTS
- Similar to the women's race, the men's 5,000m run saw all Bearcat runners post personal-best times with Seamus Collins leading the charge with a fifth-place finish in the race. Collins clocked in at 14:44.67, placing him just outside the school's all-time Top 10 listing, while Jacob Franklin dropped his PR by nearly four seconds, placing 19th overall in a time of 15:14.04.
- Tariq Sanders was the top finisher in the field events for UC on the first day of competition as the senior finished 14th overall in the triple jump with a mark of 14.23m (46-08.25). Christopher Greene also took part in the event, but was unsuccessful in recording a fair attempt.
- In the hammer throw competition, a pair of Bearcats competed with Josh Province leading the way, placing 15th overall with a toss of 53.25m (174-08) while freshman John Zedella was 20th with his mark of 49.16m (161-03).

The remainder of the events in the meet will be contested on Saturday.
