// Key Innings
Bottom of the First
The Cardinals scored two runs in the bottom of the first inning. After two quick outs, sophomore Joey Thomas (Mason, Ohio/Mason) made a great diving play to save extra bases but an error on the ensuing throw put a UofL runner on base. Back-to-back walks by Olasz loaded the bases before a single up the middle by Blake Tiberi scored two runs for the home team.
Top of the Second
Cincinnati answered immediately, scoring a run in the second to cut the UofL lead to 2-1. With two outs, freshman A.J. Bumpass (Rougemont, N.C./Northern) drew a walk before a single by Thomas put two runners on. With freshman Vince Augustine (Cranberry Township, Pa./Seneca Valley) at bat, a perfectly executed hit-and-run scored Bumpass from second base to get the Bearcats on the board.
Bottom of the Sixth
After scoring single runs in the second, third and fourth innings for a 5-1 lead, the Cardinals tacked on another in the sixth. With two outs and a runner on first base, sophomore Dalton Lehnen (Lakeville, Minn./Lakeville North) entered to pitch for the Bearcats and gave up an RBI-double on his first pitch. He only needed three pitches to get the next batter to ground out to end the damage.
