WICHITA, Kan. - Sophomore Jordan Thompson (Edina, Minn./Edina) recorded 16 kills to lead the University of Cincinnati volleyball team to a 3-0 (25-19, 25-22, 25-20) victory over IUPUI on Saturday evening in Wichita, Kansas. The match was the finale of the Shockers Volleyball Classic hosted by Wichita State University.
Thompson and fellow sophomore Carly Nolan (Crystal Lake, Ill./Crystal Lake South) were named to the Shockers Volleyball Classic All-Tournament team after stellar performances throughout the weekend. Thompson registered 5.00 kills per set, 2.27 digs per set and 1.00 blocks per set while Nolan contributed 3.45 kills per set and 2.64 digs per set in three matches for the Bearcats.

- Cincinnati improves to 4-2 on the year while IUPUI fell to 2-5
- Thompson finished the match with 16 kills and has recorded double-digit kill totals in every match this season. She also added eight digs, three blocks and a .353 hitting percentage.
- Senior Ciara Hill (Bolingbrook, Ill./Bolingbrook) was second on the team with nine kills while Nolan and senior Lise Alaiwan (Villeneuve Loubet, France/Kedge Business School) added seven apiece.
- Sophomore setter Jade Tingelhoff (Lakeville, Minn./Lakeville South) dished out 30 assists with eight digs and a career-high three service aces.
- Sophomore Abby Williams (Loveland, Ohio/Ursuline Academy) had a match-high 13 digs.
- Alaiwan led the Bearcats with six blocks while the team totaled 8.5.
- Cincinnati is now 11-2 on Saturdays dating back to September 20, 2014. The lone Saturday loss since that date was the 3-1 defeat by Marquette earlier today.

"What a wonderful weekend for our team and for the growth of our program" said head coach Molly Alvey. "The level of play from all four teams was very, very good and we got better this weekend, without a doubt. As a staff, we had several conversations about the team working hard together and coming together as a total unit and I think we did that this weekend. We played some really good volleyball."

Set 1: UC 25, IUPUI 19
- The Jaguars strung together six straight points on five consecutive kills and a UC attacking error for a 7-2 advantage, forcing an early timeout by Coach Alvey.
- The Bearcats chipped away at the lead, scoring two points at a time until a kill by Nolan and back-to-back service aces by Tingelhoff gave UC a 15-14 advantage.
- Back-to-back kills by Nolan and Thompson and Hill surged the Bearcats to a 19-16 lead before another set of kills by the same duo made it 22-18 and brought about another IUPUI timeout.
- A Jaguar service error pushed the Bearcats to the 25-19 victory and a 1-0 match lead.
- Cincinnati hit .464 with 14 kills and just one error in the opening set.
Set 2: UC 25, IUPUI 22
- A four-point scoring run gave the Jaguars an 11-8 advantage and the lead held steady through 14-11 after an attacking error by Cincinnati.
- The Bearcats finally got on a roll when consecutive kills by Thompson and Nolan and a block by Thompson and junior Maya Muldrow (Raleigh, N.C./Wakefield) got UC within 19-18 and forced an IUPUI timeout.
- Coach Alvey called a timeout with the Jaguars holding a 22-21 lead and the Bearcats responded out of the break with back-to-back kills by Hill for a 23-22 lead and an IUPUI timeout.
- After the timeout, a bad set and a service error by IUPUI gave UC the 25-22 win and a commanding 2-0 match lead.
Set 3: UC 25, IUPUI 20
- Cincinnati scored four straight points, including a pair of kills by Thompson and a kill by Hill, for a 5-3 lead.
- A four point scoring run by the Bearcats gave them a 14-8 lead but the Jaguars fought back to tie the game at 17-17.
- IUPUI went ahead 20-19 but Cincinnati didn't flinch, responding with the final six points of the match, including three straight kills by Nolan and three errors by the Jaguars, to win 25-20.

Cincinnati next travels to Bowling Green, Kentucky, to play in the Holiday Inn University Plaza Invitational on Sept. 9 and 10. The Bearcats will face Michigan State at 4 p.m. ET on Friday before matching up with the host Western Kentucky at 8 p.m. ET that evening. The tournament wraps up on Saturday vs. Southern Illinois at 4 p.m. ET. The WKU Hilltoppers are ranked No. 19 in the latest AVCA Top-25 Coaches poll while the MSU Spartans are currently receiving votes.
