CEDARVILLE, Ohio - The University of Cincinnati women's cross country team competed in the 26th Annual Friendship Invitational at Cedarville University Saturday morning with Hannah Christ leading the way for a Bearcats team that placed second overall in the team standings at the conclusion of the 5,000m race. Overall, the host Yellow Jackets won the title with 19 points while the Bearcats were second with 54 points. Taylor (81), Dayton (112) and Cleveland State (125) rounded out the Top 5 teams in the 10-team event.
Christ, running in her first meet of the year, covered the 5,000m course in 18:46.3 to finish eighth overall and lead a quartet of Bearcats across the line in succession with Meg Westerheide placing ninth overall in 18:53.8, Juliana Madzia took 10th in 18:55.2 and Lianne Masquelier was 11th in 18:58.0. The team's scoring five was rounded out by Grace O'Donnell, who was 16th in 19:15.8. Four other Bearcats competed in the race, including Emma Hensley (18th in 19:21.9), Hannah Markel (19th at 19:29.9), Vanessa Robinson (22nd at 19:35.6) and Cassidy Carey (31st at 20:03.0).
The women, as well as the UC men, will return to the same course in Cedarville in two weeks with both squads set to compete in the All-Ohio Cross Country Championships on Friday, September 30. The 36th annual women's championship 6,000m race will lead off the day at 2 p.m. with the 62nd annual men's 8,000m championship to follow at 2:45 p.m. A women's 6,000m open (3:30 p.m.) and men's 8,000m open (4:15 p.m.) will follow with an awards ceremony being conducted at 5:15 p.m.
