Final Results
CINCINNATI - University of Cincinnati sophomore Austin Squires (Union, Ky./Ryle High School) and freshman Jake Fox (Cincinnati, Ohio/Moeller High School) each finished at 4-over par 217 to help the Bearcats tie for fourth place Tuesday at the Bearcat Invitational at Coldstream Country Club (par 71, 7,150 yards).
Squires led all UC scorers for the second time in three fall tournaments, finishing at 70-70-77=217. He tied for fourth at the Invitational at the Ocean Course at a team-best 6-under 73-68-69=210 to open the fall season. Fox's effort this week matched the best tournament score of his young career, equaling a 1-over 73-72-72=217 at the Invitational at the Ocean Course.
UC seniors Jared O'Kelley (Canton, Ga./Creekview High School) and Blake Hamilton (Union, Ky./Ryle High School) carded the best final-round scores for UC on Tuesday, posting even par 71s under challenging course conditions.
O'Kelley tied for 20th place at 6-over 75-73-71=219 while Hamilton ended up tied for 23rd place at 7-over 76-73-71=220.
UC sophomore Paul Huber (Edgewood, Ky./Covington Catholic) earned his second-consecutive top-25 finish, posting an 8-over 75-73-73=221 to tie for 25th place.
"It was a very positive week for our team," UC head coach Doug Martin said. "We've have had three very good weeks to start the fall. Our kids are making great progress. We had some good individual finishes to close the tournament. I'm proud of the team. They hung in there and fought really hard today under difficult conditions."
Ohio State's Will Grimmer claimed medalist honors at 6-under 69-67-71=207.
As a team, the Bearcats tied Mississippi State for fourth place in the 10-team event. UC finished 12-over 293-283-288=864. Michigan State won the team title at 3-over 285-281-289=855.
