Bearcats Fall Short in Double OT Home Opener, 2-1

CINCINNATI - The University of Cincinnati men's soccer team was defeated by the Wright State Raiders, 2-1, in a two overtime match in its home opener on Friday night at Gettler Stadium.

With attacking play from both teams from the start, the 848 fans in attendance got to witness an exciting college soccer match on Friday night. The Raiders were able to get on the board first when Peguy Ngatcha cleaned up a junior goalkeeper Pedro Diaz (Mason, Ohio/Mason) save for a goal. The Bearcats continued to have scoring opportunities throughout regulation before freshman Aerin West (Sylvania, Ohio/Northview) found himself in the right spot at the right time off of a free kick and was able to sneak one past the keeper for his first-career goal. The two teams played a back and forth first overtime before Ngatcha rebounded a shot off the post and found the back of the net for Wright State's golden goal.

23' - WSU Peguy Ngatcha
Raider forward Eric Lynch took a shot on goal which Diaz blocked. In a scrum in front of the goal, Ngatcha was able to rebound the deflection and sneak it past Diaz to give the Raiders an early 1-0 lead.

81' - CIN Aerin West
A Wright State foul set up a free kick from sophomore Adam Wilson (Auchterarder, Scotland/Dollar Academy) from about 20 yards out. WSU's keeper Ryan Pignatiello made a save on a well-struck ball by Wilson but West fought for position in front of the goal and cleaned up the save with a poke into the back of the net.

108' - WSU Peguy Ngatcha
WSU's Sam DeRoy sent a ball into the box off of a corner kick. In a scramble, the ball managed to find its way back to DeRoy who delivered a shot off of the post. Off of the carom, Ngatcha was able to identify the ball in the box and sent a kick past Diaz to give the Raiders the victory.

// GAME NOTES
- Freshman Aerin West scored his first-career goal. The rookie has seen action in each of the team's two games this season.
- Sophomore Adam Wilson led the Bearcats' offensive attack with five shots on goal and one assist. He now has nine career assists.
- Sophomore Austin Smythe (Cincinnati, Ohio/Summit Country Day/Radford) added six shots, two of which were on goal.
- An announced crowd of 848 fans were in attendance.

The Bearcats will have a quick turnaround when they return to Gettler Stadium to take on the Saint Francis (Pa.) Red Flash at 4 p.m. on Sunday.
