University of Cincinnati sophomore Austin Squires (Union, Ky./Ryle High School) earned his third top-10 finish of the fall season Tuesday, tying for ninth place at even par 69-72-75=216 at the Mountaineer Intercollegiate at the Pete Dye Golf Club (Par 72, 7,353) in Bridgeport, West Virginia.
Squires recorded 11 birdies and 34 par scores at the 54-hole event to lead all Bearcat golfers for the fourth time in five tournaments this fall.
Freshman Jake Fox (Cincinnati, Ohio/Moeller High School) tied for 13th place at 1-over 71-72-74=217. Fox also posted 11 birdies and 34 par scores at the tournament, capping off his second top-15 finish in the past three events.
Patrick Flavin of Miami (Ohio) won medalist honors at 6-under 68-69-73=210.
The Bearcats finished seventh in the team standings at 22-over 289-290-307=886, dropping four places from their third-place finish after the completion of round two earlier in the morning. Arkansas won the team championship as the only squad to finish the 14-team event with a below par score at 6-under 290-280-288=858.
"I'm very pleased with the performances of Austin and Jake," UC head coach Doug Martin said. "Overall though, I'm frustrated with our play today. We were poor in all aspects and didn't execute our plan. We'll need to refocus and bounce back in a couple of weeks at our last tournament of the fall season."
