Bearcats Win Third Consecutive Sweep at Houston

HOUSTON
- The University of Cincinnati volleyball team swept its third straight match on Thursday evening, beating Houston 3-0 (25-13, 25-21, 25-16) in American Athletic Conference action. With the sweep, the Bearcats won their 10th straight set, marking the first time they have accomplished the feat since winning 12 straight back in 2010.

Sophomore Jordan Thompson (Edina, Minn./Edina) led Cincinnati with 18 kills and only two errors for a .571 hitting percentage. She led a trio of UC players with double-digit kills, including senior Ciara Hill (Bolingbrook, Ill./Bolingbrook) who finished with 12 and sophomore Carly Nolan (Crystal Lake, Ill./Crystal Lake South) who finished with 11.

The Cincinnati offense hit at a .471 hitting percentage, more than .100 over its previous season high of .370 which it set against Furman on Sept. 17.

- Cincinnati improves to 11-7 on the year and 6-1 in The American while Houston falls to 5-13 and 0-7 in the league.
- The Bearcats improve to 11-8 all-time against the Cougars.
- Thompson has hit double-digit kills in 15 matches this season, Nolan has recorded double-digit kills in 12 matches and Hill has reached the milestone 10.
- Thompson's .571 attacking clip and Hill's .500 mark are both career highs and mark the first time any UC player has hit at .500 or better in a match since Nolan notched a .525 clip against Tulane on Oct. 16, 2015.
- Sophomore Abby Williams (Loveland, Ohio/Ursuline Academy) had a match-high 14 digs.
- Sophomore Jade Tingelhoff (Lakeville, Minn./Lakeville South) dished out a match-high 36 assists and tied a career high with four blocks.
- Collectively, the team is 8-0 on the season when hitting .250 or better in a match.
- The Bearcats held the Cougars to a .222 hitting percentage and are 11-3 when keeping their opponents below .250.
- UC improves to 6-0 when at least three players hit .300 or better in the match.
- The .471 attacking percentage is the highest for any UC team since the 2003 season.

Set 1: UC 25, UH 13
- The Bearcats opened a 12-8 lead after the Cougars' third service error of the match. The play started a three point UC scoring run that gave the visitors a 14-8 lead and forced a Cougars timeout.
- Cincinnati scored six straight points, including a pair of service aces by senior Lindsey Dinkelacker (Cincinnati, Ohio/St. Louis), to go ahead 21-10.
- A kill by Thompson ended the game with a 25-13 score.
Set 2: UC 25, UH 21
- The teams traded points to open the game but kills by Hill and Nolan, along with a strong service game from freshman Sabrina Wolf (Cincinnati, Ohio/Mount Notre Dame), gave the Bearcats a cushion at 13-11.
- The lead extended to 17-13 following three straight kills by Hill (twice) and Thompson.
- A Thompson kill forced a Houston timeout with a 22-18 UC lead and a Cougars service error gave UC the 25-21 win and a 2-0 lead at the intermission.
Set 3: UC 25, UH 16
- A kill by Hill followed by three consecutive Houston errors gave the Bearcats a 6-4 lead.
- UC maintained its advantage throughout the set and grew its lead to 23-15 following four strong serves from sophomore Texas native Parker Shepherd (McKinney, Texas/McKinney Boyd).
- The match concluded on a kill by junior Maya Muldrow (Raleigh, N.C./Wakefield) for the Bearcats victory.
