Volleyball Wins Marathon Match at Tulane

NEW ORLEANS
- The University of Cincinnati volleyball team went the distance at Tulane, winning in five sets (25-20, 25-27, 25-17, 22-25, 16-14) on Saturday afternoon in New Orleans. It was the sixth-straight victory for the Bearcats in American Athletic Conference action.

Sophomore Abby Williams (Loveland, Ohio/Ursuline Academy) was one dig shy of her career best, finishing with 24 to lead the Bearcats' defense. Sophomores Carly Nolan (Crystal Lake, Ill./Crystal Lake South) and Jade Tingelhoff (Lakeville, Minn./Lakeville) recorded their seventh and fifth double-doubles, respectively, for the Bearcats.

- Cincinnati improves to 12-7 on the year and 7-1 in The American while Tulane falls to 12-8 and 4-4 in the league.
- The Bearcats improve to 25-2 all-time against the Green Wave.
- Cincinnati is 2-2 on the season in five-set matches, including a 2-1 mark in league play.
- Nolan led the UC offense with 17 kills while adding 12 digs and three service aces.
- Tingelhoff dished out 54 assists and finished with 14 digs.
- Senior Lindsey Dinkelacker (Cincinnati, Ohio/St. Louis) collected 13 digs and had a pair of service aces for Cincinnati.
- Senior Alison Kimmel (Plainfield, Ill./Plainfield North) recorded a career-high 10 kills while adding three blocks and two digs. The middle blocker also hit at a match-high .562 percentage.
- Sophomore Jordan Thompson (Edina, Minn./Edina) recorded 16 kills and has hit double-digit kills in 16 matches this season. Nolan has recorded double-digit kills in 13 matches and senior Ciara Hill (Bolingbrook, Ill./Bolingbrook) finished with 14 kills and has reached the milestone 10 times.
- The Bearcats held the Green Wave to a .230 hitting percentage and are 12-3 when keeping their opponents below .250.
- Cincinnati had won 11 straight sets before falling 27-25 in the second set.

// SET BREAKDOWN
Set 1: UC 25, TU 20
- Three consecutive Bearcats kill by Thompson, Hill and junior Maya Muldrow (Raleigh, N.C./Wakefield) gave the visitors an early 8-3 lead over the Green Wave.
- Tulane was forced into a timeout after back-to-back kills by Nolan put the Bearcats ahead 15-9, but the Green Wave responded out of the break with three straight points to get within 15-12.
- The Green Wave continued its momentum with three straight points to force a Cincinnati timeout at 19-17 and got within 21-20 after a UC service error.
- Three straight Tulane hitting errors gave the Bearcats a 24-20 lead and Thompson finished it with a kill to put the Bearcats ahead 1-0 in the match.
Set 2: TU 27, UC 25
- A run of three straight Tulane points on three UC attacking errors gave the Green Wave a 7-3 advantage and forced head coach Molly Alvey into a timeout.
- A string of five straight points, including a kill by Hill, two by Nolan and one by Tingelhoff, finally gave the Bearcats a lead at 17-15.
- The Bearcats could not convert on three set point opportunities before Tulane rattled off three points on three straight kills to win the game 27-25 and tie the match at 1-1.
Set 3: UC 25, TU 17
- The teams traded points throughout the opening stages of the game but the Bearcats used a kill by Thompson and a block by Thompson and senior Lise Alaiwain (Villeneuve Loubet, France/Kedge Business School) for a 14-11 lead and a Tulane timeout.
- The lead grew to 19-13 following a service ace from Dinkelacker, forcing the second timeout from the Green Wave.
- The Bearcats ripped off four straight points out of the timeout, including a second Dinkelacker ace, for a 23-13 lead and won the game on a Nolan kill.
Set 4: TU 25, UC 22
- Tulane scored six of eight points to take a 13-11 lead before the Bearcats came back with the next two to re-tie the score at 13-13.
- The score remained close through 21-21 before a UC attacking error and a Tulane kill gave the Green Wave a 23-21 lead and forced a Bearcats timeout.
- UC fought off one set point but a kill by Tea Juric ended the game with a 25-22 Tulane win to force a fifth set.
Set 5: UC 16, TU 14
- UC was the first to eight points after back-to-back kills by Thompson and Nolan and held an 8-6 lead at the court change.
- Tulane re-tied the score at 9-9 but Thompson answered with two blocks for an 11-9 Cincinnati lead and a Green Wave timeout.
- The home team fought back with three straight kills to go back in front 12-11 and force the Bearcats into a timeout.
- Kills by Hill, Thompson and Alaiwan gave the Bearcats a pair of match points but they could not convert and Tulane again tied the score at 14-14.
- A kill by Hill set up another match point and a tough serve by redshirt sophomore Elly Ogle (Ft. Mitchell, Ky./LSU) set up an attacking error by the Green Wave to give UC the 16-14 set victory.

// UP NEXT
The Bearcats return to Cincinnati to face the UConn Huskies on Friday, Oct. 21, at 7 p.m. in Fifth Third Arena. The team will be wearing its new red uniforms in conjunction with the athletics department's #ArmouRED initiative.
