CINCINNATI - The University of Cincinnati volleyball team kicked off homecoming weekend with a gritty 3-2 (13-25, 25-21, 23-25, 25-20, 15-11) victory over UConn on Friday night in Fifth Third Arena. The Bearcats fell behind on two occasions but leveled the score each time before pulling out the 15-11 win in the final game for the match victory.
Sophomore Jordan Thompson (Edina, Minn./Edina) dazzled with a career-high 29 kills to go along with 10 digs for her seventh double-double of the season. The rightside hitter ranked eighth in the NCAA with 4.71 kills per set entering the match and averaged 5.80 kills per set against the Huskies.

- Cincinnati improves to 13-7 on the year and 8-1 in The American while UConn falls to 13-7 and 4-5 in the league.
- The win was the seventh consecutive victory for the UC, marking its longest winning streak since recording 11 straight wins in 2011.

- Cincinnati is 3-2 on the season in five-set matches, including a 3-1 mark in league play.

- Thompson has recorded double-digit kills in 17 matches this season while Nolan has hit the mark 14 times
- The Bearcats held the Huskies to a .196 hitting percentage and are 13-3 when keeping their opponents below .250. It is the seventh-straight match UC has kept their opposing team to under a .250 percentage.
- Cincinnati was wearing special red uniforms to comply with the athletic department's #ArmouRED campaign for homecoming weekend.
// SET BREAKDOWN
Set 1: UConn 25, UC 13
- The teams traded points until a three-point scoring run from the Huskies gave the visitors a 12-9 lead. The lead grew to 18-12 after four straight UConn kills, forcing the second Cincinnati timeout of the game.
- UConn scored 11 of the final 12 points in the game to win 25-13 and take a 1-0 lead in the match.
Set 2: UC 25, UConn 21
- The Bearcats scored four straight points, including back-to-back kills by Thompson, for a 17-15 lead and a UConn timeout.
- UConn tied the score at 20-20 but a Thompson kill and a block by seniors Ciara Hill (Bolingbrook, Ill./Bolingbrook) and Alaiwan forced the second Huskies timeout with a 22-20 Cincinnati lead.
- UC closed the game with three straight points, including kills by Thompson and Nolan and a block by Nolan and Alaiwan to win the set 25-21.
Set 3: UConn 25, UC 23
- The Huskies called a timeout after three straight UC points, including kills by Thompson and Kimmel and a block by the same tandem, gave the home team a 15-12 advantage.
- UConn responded out of the break with four consecutive points for a 16-15 lead and a Cincinnati timeout.
- UC got within 21-20 on a Huskies service error but UConn scored the next two points for a 23-20 lead.
- A service error by UConn delayed a set point until a kill by Camille Evans on the next play gave the Huskies the 25-23 game win.
Set 4: UC 25, UConn 20
- The Huskies called the first timeout of the game after Cincinnati took an 8-3 lead on a block by Nolan and Alaiwan.
- A pair of ball handling errors by UConn put Cincinnati ahead 15-10 and the lead expanded to 23-18 following two more errors in the UConn attack.
- A kill by Thompson ended the set at 25-20 to force a deciding fifth game.
Set 5: UC 15, UConn 11
- The Bearcats raced to a 5-1 lead after consecutive service aces by Kimmel.
- A kill by Thompson gave UC an 8-4 lead at the court change and a kill by Nolan a few plays later forced the Huskies into a timeout down 10-6.
- UConn crept to within 11-8 but back-to-back attacking errors by the Huskies and a Thompson kill gave the Bearcats match point at 14-8.
- The Huskies attempted a rally with three straight points but Thompson left no doubt when she slammed home her 29th kill to end the match.
