CINCINNATI - The University of Cincinnati swimming and diving team competed in its annual Red and Black intrasquad meet on Friday, Sept. 30, at the Keating Aquatic Center. The meet saw success from upperclassmen as well as freshmen and transfer student-athletes in the preseason preview.

On the women's side, senior All-American Jacqueline Keire (Burlington, Ontario/Nelson) competed in five individual races, earning five victories. Sophomore Natalie Obando (Herndon, Va./Towson) appeared in her first action for the Bearcats after transferring from Towson, winning both the 100 and 200 backstroke events. Freshman Rocky Laabs (Hartland, Wisc./Arrowhead) followed up her seventh place finish at the CSCAA National Collegiate Open Water Championship in September with an overwhelming victory in the 1,000 freestyle. She also finished second behind Keire in the 500 freestyle.

The men were led by junior Chris Bready (Missouri City, Texas/Lawrence E. Elkins) who swept both the 500 and the 1000 freestyle distance events after finishing third overall at the open water championship. Freshman Din Selmanovic (Mississauga, Ontario/Cawthra) won the 200 IM and was the runner-up behind Bready in both distance events while classmate John Mataxas (Savannah, Ga./H.V. Jenkins) picked up a win in the 100 butterfly. Senior Connor Davis (Cincinnati, Ohio/Anderson) also had a strong showing, sweeping the 50, 100 and 200 freestyle events.

The Bearcats will open the 2016-17 season on November 4, when they host Michigan State in the first dual meet of the year at 5:30 p.m. in the Keating Aquatic Center.
